1. Say to the vainglorious crow, say to him
The words of a man whose honor he ruined and whose feathers he plucked.
١. قولا لِفَخْراوَرَ قَوْلَ امْرِئٍ
فِي عِرْضِهِ عاثَ وَفِي الرِّيشِ راثْ
2. O heavy, gloomy mountain that
Has no hope of salvation or redemption.
٢. يا جَبَلَ الُّلؤْمِ الثَّقِيلِ الَّذِي
لَيْسَ لَهُ فِي الصّالِحاتِ انْبِعاثْ
3. You were never worthy of my hopes, nor
One I would call on for help in time of distress.
٣. ما كنْتَ أَهْلاً لِرَجائِي وَلا
مِثْلُكَ فِي الْكُرْبَةِ مَنْ يُسْتَغاثْ
4. Yet I was like a starving man
Who after three days eats carrion.
٤. لكَّنِنِي كُنْتُ كَذِي جَوْعَةٍ
حَلَّتْ لَهُ الْمَيْتَةُ بَعْدَ الْثَّلاثْ
