1. The Shāfiʿī, the ink of the universe
The secret of Islamic law flowed through him

2. Until he rose to the summit of greatness
And his brilliance surpassed that of the moon

3. How much knowledge has he produced
And virtues has he attained

4. And confounded his opponent
Showing him the lessons of life

5. Islamic law proclaimed openly
That with Al-Shāfiʿī, you have attained your wish

6. And worn the clothes of delight
And warded off causes of peril

7. He never tired after weaning
Of seeking knowledge or wasted

8. Time or neglected listening
To knowledge or staying up late

9. His food and drink
Was solving the difficult, and his habit

10. Was acquiring knowledge and keeping company
With what his eyes saw in his travels

11. He filled the earth with knowledge
So its path progressed like that of the stars

12. Until all agreed unanimously
And his knowledge verified reports

13. For knowledge and wisdom
The Banū ʿAbd al-Ḥakam family

14. Made their homes generous out of nobility
For his lofty and splendid tomb

15. So it became forbidden to all people
Because the Imam was laid to rest in it

16. No visitor would be harmed
Or afflicted by any harm

17. Through him, Egypt attained purity
And glory through him it gained

18. And through the People of the Prophet's House
The noble and virtuous ancestors

19. Happy is he who relies on them
And intends to visit them with sincerity

20. And seeks help at their time of distress
For closeness to kin is triumph

21. O Lord, make our gathering blissful
With might and grant it wealth

22. And make the firm religion through it
Ascend to the highest place

23. O our Lord, make beautiful our end
We hope from You, upon attaining our goal

24. Through the Full Moon, the Pride of Existence
The honored secret of creation

25. Blessings upon him and peace
Master of the world, Lord of the heavens

26. And his Family and Companions for as long
As the moon shines in the horizon
