1. Glory is through knowledge, not status or wealth
And pride is through merit, not science or ancestry

2. All glory without knowledge is cut off
And all abundance without merit is scarcity

3. Every situation dominated by ignorance
Is misery for its people

4. The glory of ignorance is decline and disgrace
While the glory of knowledge is prosperity and ascendance

5. The ignorant die with no mention or trace
Mirages in the belly of the desert are fantasy

6. The ignorant are disgraced in both worlds
Among people they are fools

7. Their legacy dies with their death among the living
For the ignorant are the epitome of deficiency

8. They are insignificant quanta in the universe
It is all the same whether they last or perish

9. But people of knowledge are alive even when buried
Over their graves is light and veneration

10. Everyone inhales their legacy like sweet basil
While the stench of wind is deadly combat

11. However high the bird of the arrogant soars
The scholars are still nobler and loftier

12. Through the ages they are the adornment of time
While others are the commodities of this life

13. Their deeds are free of defects and blemishes
Scrutinize them and you will find no fault

14. They are the saviors when crisis strikes
And they are the family of the Prophet Muhammad

15. Those who visit them sincerely are never disappointed
Nor subjected by truth to humiliation

16. Since childhood this Imam of merit
Has set examples for people through his knowledge

17. A stormy sea whose waters are potable
Quenching the thirst of heroes and champions

18. The foundations of Sharia and literature sprang from him
Disseminating knowledge throughout the universe

19. He is the most learned ship sailing
Above the sea's surface with the cosmos revolving

20. Its sails are Sharia and Quran, its captain is
The way of the chosen Prophet steering its course

21. See how all are cheerful in his company
Hoping for acceptance, their hearts full of anticipation

22. On them is the radiance of pure intentions
Their silence more profound than words

23. They rushed to him with good faith
Seeking his boundless favour through supplication

24. And why not, when the Imam Shafi'i
Is of overflowing generosity like pouring rain

25. He is the cousin of Allah's Messenger
From a clan of sweet fragrance and cascading generosity

26. Rebuke the jealous if you come seeking from them
While the generous are lions in war when called upon

27. It suffices Ibn Idris as a source of pride
The authenticity of his Hadith undisputed for generations

28. Through his knowledge the horizons of earth have been filled
And through him the gates of knowledge unlocked

29. With his knowledge Malik was overjoyed
And the two companions said of him what they said

30. This is true and impartial witness
No blemish in it or truth causing disability

31. Tell those who think some resemble him
You are deluded in your accusation

32. Were it not for the Imam and People of your House
You would have been torn from the Nile valley

33. For God's sake, desist and pay the naysayers no heed
They are undoubtedly the devil's cronies

34. Alas, they have strayed from religion which to them
Is a shackle and yoke around necks

35. The light of his blessings thwarts deviance
As Sharia is a lethal and combative sword

36. O Imam, people have come to you in droves
With beautiful expectations and hopes

37. They have frequented your halls in sincerity
Preoccupied only with the truth

38. To you they have stretched their hands in good faith
So be gentle, for kindness invites reciprocity

39. Consider Egypt, its people and visitors
Who have all descended as your guests today

40. You are the trusted guardian of this country
The solver of its tangled complexities

41. Through your protection, people have been just
Never deviating from upright intentions

42. O Lord, honor the people of knowledge
For they are all champions of religion

43. Conclude with the best and relieve all catastrophe
For only You, above all, are All Capable
