1. Egypt exults in Imam al-Shafi'i
Pride of the Imams, Kaaba of the seekers

2. She gained among the Imams her jurist
So you have the pride with the best of glories

3. Egypt rejoiced in him and her people
As Hejaz rejoiced in the Master of Masters

4. This Qurashi scholar is superior to any
Whose hadith is authenticated in its chain

5. An ocean overflowing with knowledge, don't you see
It is a spring for the athirst and lost

6. The heavens revolve above the turbulence of his sea
With sails of the law of the guiding Prophet

7. They flow but his sails cannot be gathered
Though they are stronger than pegged tents

8. You, Imam of the religion, have a towering pillar
In law, erected on firm columns

9. You have the best stature in virtues hoped for
And your side is the goal of seekers

10. You have the best fame in generosity circulating
And glories too many to be counted

11. You have a field whose kings bowed at its gate
And were ennobled by its bouquet on their shoulders

12. You have a birth in which joy is gathered
And it has splendor and bliss of feasts

13. To it people journeyed as if it were
The Mother of Cities, eager to attain their hopes

14. They came to Imam al-Shafi'i for he
Is the judge of Sacred Law, man of spiritual gifts

15. If you doubt then behold before you
A throng in whom this hall is crowded

16. So the beauty of his splendid birth increased
In splendor with the light of its flaming torch

17. No feast made glad with more beautiful adornment than this birth
Whose beauties surpassed customary ones

18. O judge of the noble Sacred Law, and if
Someone called you, you would be on guard

19. Stretch out your right hand in kindness
For I am the loving watcher waking and asleep

20. And look upon my elders and those gathered here
With the gaze of acceptance and glance of happiness

21. And upon the bearers of the noble Sacred Law
For they are the people of guidance and signs of direction

22. You remain a landing place of mercy for contentment
And protector of mankind from the stench of rascals
