1. Leave the cups, for dawn of glory has appeared,
And awaken, for the time of sleep has passed.

2. Use wisdom to liberate your homeland,
And hold life itself cheap in saving your country.

3. Egypt calls on her sons though she is wronged
To turn their raging zeal into hot flames.

4. Cleanse the land of the aggressors and usurpers
And rain on them the torment of disgrace.

5. Do not placate the treacherous with appeasement,
Though they parade fifty lines of horsemen.

6. Seek God's help, for victory is in His hand,
Against the foe, for the will to victory is aroused.

7. Join together in unifying your goal,
And reconcile the hearts of your countrymen.

8. Strengthen the bond of sincerity among you,
And inscribe it above your zeal as your creed.

9. Judge with reason before acting; take
The views of the wise and learned as your guide.

10. The nights have shown us clearly that calm
Is tomorrow the key to valor.

11. From it will shine the light of truth completely,
Like the rising full moon illuminating the night.

12. Shun in your gatherings the companion of vice,
And do not think them sincere counselors of right.

13. Each flatters and hides a sword of betrayal,
If he finds what he wants, he stays or leaves you.

14. They placate you, exonerating their deeds,
If they are foiled, they reveal what they hid within.

15. They are worthless men, with no principles,
Seeking only riches and selfish gain.

16. Beware of them in every society,
And arm your hearts against them.

17. Then rise with the zeal of heroes, and gird yourselves
With determination and care for the struggle.

18. Tear apart the unity of your enemies, and do not waver,
For how much has our country wept from their treachery and lamented!

19. How much have they plundered by their injustice,
Of sustenance, wealth, lives, and souls!

20. They have separated mother from child,
And multiplied plunder, encroachment, insistence.

21. They have divided our affairs into factions,
Clarifying the ways of our separation.

22. Until our country was brought distress and weakness,
And all were left weeping and wailing.

23. They silenced the tongues from complaining of their injustice,
For they were helpless before their tyranny.

24. They degraded knowledge and education
After advancement, and the banner of knowledge fell.

25. Where are the eminent ones whose knowledge
Used to water keen minds like cups of learning?

26. Where are those who attained the highest ranks,
Whose thoughts were lamps of reform?

27. There came upon all a decree none could stop,
Which uprooted by injustice the garden of knowledge and swept it away.

28. Arise, do not fear the one who barks at you,
For by his fear the dog meets you with barking.

29. Restore to Egypt what was unjustly plundered from her,
For Egypt's voice will resound with victory tomorrow.

30. Eradicate their insolence with steadfast courage,
Morning, evening, night, and daybreak.

31. Egypt's fertile land is choked with their thorns,
So be to your country's thorns splitters and shovels.

32. If you educate them, they will turn their backs to you
And return dividing you again.

33. O avengers of God, leave no greedy ambitious one,
For ruthlessness of nature and heart are their traits.

34. They betrayed Christ and feared not His law,
Never reciting a chapter of the Bible.

35. So O Nile youths, awaken from your slumber,
A river of their blood flows in our country.

36. Violation, havoc, and shedding of blood occurred,

37. Egypt calls you for vengeance and awakens you,
So do not sleep, for the time of vengeance has come.

38. You have known their intentions from of old,
And all have become blood-spillers and blood-letters.

39. If they leave, say upon their departure:
"Thank God! Oppression is gone and injustice has vanished."
