1. What a fine lad, for whose loss his brothers grieve
On the day of al-Baqee', midst the blows of fate's calamities,
١. نِعمَ الفَتى فَجَعَت بِهِ إِخوانَهُ
يَومَ البَقيعِ حَوادِثُ الأَيّامِ
2. Easy is the house to enter when its owner welcomes you in,
Open-handed, well-mannered servants in its surround,
٢. سَهلُ الفَناءِ إِذا حَلَلتَ بِبابِهِ
طَلقُ اليَدَينِ مُؤَدَّبُ الخُدّامِ
3. And when you see his brother and his friend,
You know not, O kinsmen, which of the two to pity more.
٣. وَإِذا رَأَيتَ شَقيقَهُ وَصَديقَهُ
لَم تَدرِ أَيُّها ذَوو الأَرحامِ
