1. I seek forgiveness from Allah, my Lord, for intoxication
One day its tipsiness and wooziness appeared to me
١. أَستَغفِرُ اللَهَ رَبي مِن مُخَدَّرَةٍ
يَوماً بَدا لِيَ مِنها الكَشحُ وَالكَتَدُ
2. From a company whose calls we answered
Each thing forbidden, so they were not praised nor blamed
٢. مِن رُفقَةٍ صاحَبونا في نِدائَهُمُ
كُلٌّ حَرامٌ فَما ذُمّوا وَلا حُمِدوا
3. Until when the bodies bent over in their throats
From them foamy rotten flesh dripped
٣. حَتّى إِذا البُدنَ كاسَت في مَناحِرِها
يَبلو المَناسِمَ منها مُزبِدٌ جَسِدُ
4. And the people rounded up and donned their turbans
So each forbidden thing raised its head high
٤. وَحَلَّقَ القَومُ وَاِعتَمّوا عَمائِمَهُم
فَحَلَّ كُلُّ حَرامٍ رَأسُهُ لَبِدُ
5. I came asking her about her company
And I care not whether the people attended or were absent
٥. أَقبَلتُ أَسأَلُها ما بالُ رِفقَتِها
وَما أُبالي أَغابَ القَومُ أَم شَهِدوا
6. She drew near to me and sweetened her talk
And frightened me and said some of what she felt
٦. فَقَرَّبَت لِيَ وَاِحلَولَت مَقالَتُها
وَخَوَّفَتني وَقالَت بَعضَ ما تَجِدُ
7. How can a Hijazi attain his desire
With any of the daughters of Qain their homes remote
٧. أَنّى يَنالُ حِجازِيٌّ بِحاجَتِهِ
إِحدى بَني القَينِ أَدنى دارَها بَرَدُ
