1. I'm tired of etiquette,
I've seen it cause distress.
١. حَسبي ضَجِرتُ مِنَ الأَدَب
وَرَأَيَّتُهُ سَبَبَ العَطَب
2. I've shunned grammatical parsing,
And sermons I compress.
٢. وَهَجَرتُ إِعرابَ الكَلا
مِ وَما حَفِظتُ مِنَ الخُطَب
3. Interpreting the obscure,
I now eschew,
٣. وَرَفَضتُ تَفسيرَ الغَريبِ
وَعِلمَ أَشعارِ العَرَب
4. Knowing the verse of Arabs
I bid adieu.
٤. وَشَنِئتُ أَخبارَ الزُبَيرِ
وَما رَواهُ مِنَ النَسَب

And lineage too,
٥. وَرَهَنتُ ديوانَ النَقا
ئِضِ وَاِستَرَحتُ مِنَ التَعَب
