1. That lighthouse in its lofty place
Casts its roving beams into the gloom of night.

2. You built it as an ornament and a guide
For people on prolonged pilgrimage.

3. Its elevated mirror is revealing,
Disclosing the obscure facets of things.

4. An eye surveying the secret of every truth,
And refuting each conjecture with a question.

5. Genius stood behind it, gazing ahead
At the essence of eternity and the goal of journeying,

6. Soaring to the stars of heaven and swooping down
To visit the star of earth in the thickets,

7. Crossing the domains of the unseen, discovering
Suns there that knew no rising or decline,

8. Peering at minute particles of dust in the soil
And seeing young plants not yet lit with gleaming dew,

9. Smiling while the salt spray is being whipped up
And the waves mounting beyond their bounds,

10. Till the rough face of the sea forgets its rage
And there is a harvesting of its shells and pearls.

11. It continues tirelessly to snare marvels,
With strands of its light and cables,

12. And loans two hearts like yours
Miracles of magic for alert minds,

13. So they meet the readers with an echo
Of what is recounted in words,

14. And show the people of discrimination novelties
To captivate hearts with gentle intimation

15. In two books comprising all the distilled
Wisdom of eras and generations,

16. Renewed in number with the months, its spring
Sweet and lovely, of every charm possessed.

17. If its pages were collected for their multitude,
They would extend up the towering mountains.

18. You created it as a journal for the sciences,
Its elegant style has won the arts of beauty.

19. Your eyes kept vigil perfecting it,
So that in its lines is the blackness of sleepless nights,

20. And from the ink blood was spilt, though it appears
Multi-colored and figured.

21. Jacob, in reviving the glory of his country
And the continuity of its gifts from one generation to the next,

22. Is a philosopher in his conduct and in private,
Matching word with deed.

23. The closest of men to perfection, nor was there
In his time a thing more tempting than perfection.

24. And the stalwart at critical moments a horseman that no horseman
In the feverish midst of a literary fray.

25. Solver of the riddle of affairs when they become
Knotty, and the adept is wearied by solving.

26. Is there between the champions of eloquence his peer,
Forestalling the farthest goals in every sphere?

27. O twin knights of literature and nobility who have attained
The highest wishes of sublime glory!

28. May the glory of your position delight you, and its good,
The loftiness of your worth beyond all presumption!

29. And the feast is the midpoint of a hundred years elapsed
In a service that is proverbial.

30. A feast the East's countries share, one its cities
And for its inhabitants a common bond.

31. And speaking of the feast, let us speak of a brother
The place calls to without company.

32. No man backed gratitude as he backed it
With attributes created for it and its refinements.

33. If the testimony of his day misses him,
The little ones see him with their eyes.

34. A fellowship—how faithful were three!—
Who were the best example for the East.

35. They began their struggle and pursued their course,
Yearning for a precious hardly gained goal.

36. Patience for the days until there came
From every side whatever destiny would bring.

37. The ethics of commitment are not perfected without them
Among both worlds' momentous deeds.

38. The great of men are not preferable
They have enjoyed favor, now leave great men alone!

39. An aspiring adventurer may mistake
In his paths the rumbling thunder for sublimity.

40. Or the defiant suicidal may court death thinking
His firm belief in fate has emboldened him.

41. But the preferable were constant and sacrificed themselves
To cast light and guide and dispel misguidance.

42. They bought their countries' peace with their own,
They are my life the finest heroes!

43. Theirs is the guardianship and hearts are their thrones,
Theirs their status of veneration!

44. You whom I praised but my praise does not measure up,
With courtesy my excuse for falling short.

45. Your glory stands tall as a firmly anchored
Mountain, what are gleaming swords compared to it!

46. As for the flowing stream, though it babbles
Is it like the cascade from its fount?

47. No innovation in my poetry's falling short
Wide is the gap between reality and dreams!
