1. Elias of the family of Nasr has passed away
To the most noble, we mourn the one who was mourned
١. إِلْيَاسُ مِنْ آلِ نَصْرٍ قَضَى
إِلَى الأَعِزَّاءِ نَعْيُ مَنْ نَعَى
2. The pillar of the glories of honorable men has gone
To the custody of Allah, never to return
٢. عَميدُ أمجَادِ كِرامٍ مَضَى
فِي ذِمِّة اللهِ وَلَنْ يَرْجَعَا
3. He was devout, patient, doing good
He forgave mistakes, pure of purpose
٣. كَانَ تَقِيّاً صَابِراً مُحْسِناً
عَفَّ السَّجايَا طَاهِراً مَنْزَعَا
4. Whoever listed his agreeable traits
Would list them all to describe him
٤. مَنْ عَدَّدَ الأَخْلاَقَ مَرْضِيَةً
عَدَّدَهَا فِي وَصْفِهِ أَجْمَعَا
5. The truthful gave him what he deserved
A people who altogether honored him
٥. بَلَّغَهُ المَصْدُوقَ مِنْ حَقِّهِ
شَعْبٌ عَلَى إِكْرَامِهِ أَجْمَعَا
6. Few honored him more while he lived
As the honor when he was bid farewell
٦. وَقَلَّ مَنْ أَكْرَمَ مِنْ قَبْلِهِ
حَيّاً كَمَا إِكْرَامِ إِذْ شُيِّعا
7. He was a righteous, pure father
A branch for the most eminent family tree
٧. كَان أَباً بِرّاً وَأَصْلاً ذَكا
فَرْعٌ لِلْعَلْيَاءِ مَنْ فُرِّعَا
8. His two sons in morals and knowledge
Did not take other than the highest position
٨. نَجْلاَهُ بِالآدَابِ وَالعِلْمِ لمْ
يَتَّخذَا دُونَ الذرَى مَوْضِعَا
9. And he was the most faithful with whom
A wife was blessed with all he provided
٩. وَكَانَ أَوْفى مَنْ بِهِ أُسْعِدَت
زَوْجٌ رَعَتْ مِنْ عَهْدِهِ مَا رَعَى
10. She was not pleased with life without him
So she hastened when he hastened too
١٠. لَمْ يُرْضِهَا العَيْشُ إِذَا مَا نأَى
فَأَزْمَعَتْ نَأْياً وَقَدْ أَزْمَعَا
11. And Paradise welcomed its Paradise
Answering its caller when he called
١١. وَاسْتَقْبَلتْ فِرْدَوْسُ فُرْدَوْسَهَا
مُجِيبَةً دَاعِيهَا إِذَ دَعَا
12. What blessed companions they were
The ideal example of righteousness
١٢. نِعْمَ الْقرِينَانِ فَقَدْ مُثِّلا
فِي الْبِرِّ ذَاكَ المَثَلَ الأَبْدَعَا
13. They lived as intimacy desired together
And when parting arrived, they died together
١٣. عَاشَا كَمَا شَاءَ التَّوَاخِي مَعاً
وَحِينَ حَمَّ الْبَيْنَ مَاتَا مَعَا
14. If people were to be admonished they would not
Hear of a sadder or more wondrous event
١٤. لَوْ وَعِظَ النَّاسُ لمَا خُوطِبُوا
بِحَادِثٍ أَشْجَى وَلاَ أَرْوَعا
