1. O you who kept away from me
Yet were the dearest of comrades and friends

2. And I grieved when I lost you
That you should go before me

3. So I remembered you with acceptance
For memory cannot suffice

4. Today time has brought us back
To be together, side by side

5. In two forms, renewed
Our lives, shoulder to shoulder

6. O you whose glances upon them
Do not heed me

7. This is the prince of poetry and poets
Of non-Arabs and Arabs

8. It is he whose traces
Are etched in every heart

9. It is he whose eloquence
Guides, and whose rhythm captivates

10. No caller did he fail to answer
That divine inspiration

11. He is the conversant, the entertainer
The teacher, the nurturer

12. His statue of metal
His example in every heart

13. To God is a house of guidance
It is a house of acting and play

14. How many sages has it brought forth
From innocent, pleasing amusement

15. Geniuses of prohibition descended upon it
With breadth and spaciousness

16. And the finest shepherd of knowledge
And the arts, may God shepherd you

17. And prolong your life among veneration
Encompassed by love and affection
