1. You reached Egypt, where every blossom
Revives the soul with its scent
١. شَارَفْتَ مِصْرَ وَفِيهَا كُلُّ نَاضِرَةٍ
مِنَ الأَزَاهِرِ يُحْيِي النَّفْسَ رَيَّاهَا
2. You lingered in its garden, keen and graceful
Until you attained its most fragrant and splendid
٢. فَظَلْتَ فِي رَوْضِهَا مُسْتَطْلِعاً لَبِقاً
حَتَّى ظَفِرْتَ بِأَذْكَاهَا وَأَبْهَاهَا
3. The queen of roses, as lovely as can be
The water of beauty flowed in her and quenched her
٣. مَلِيكَةُ الوَرْدِ مِلْءُ العَيْنِ صُورتُهَا
مَاءُ الجَمَالِ جَرى فِيهَا فَأَرواهَا
4. Beauty reveals her secrets
And purity radiates light from her smile
٤. الحُسْنُ يَجْلُو الخَبَايَا مِنْ سَرَائِرِهَا
وَالطهرُ يسْطَعُ نُوراً مِنْ مُحيَّاهَا
5. She is nothing but scattered pearls
Her words are whispers from her folds
٥. وَمَا تَخَالُ سِوَى دُرٍّ مُنَثَّرَةٍ
أَلفاظَهَا دَارِجَاتٍ مِنَ ثَنَايَاهَا
6. Her mirror is her mother, enhancing her beauty
Renewing and unveiling her facets
٦. مِرْآتُها أُمُّهَا تُجْلي مَحَاسِنَها
مُجَدَّدَاتٍ وَتَسْتَجْلِي سجَاياهَا
7. She leaned towards you, impartial
Not favoring any but revealing her inclinations
٧. مالَتْ إِلَيْكَ وَمَا فِي قَدِّهَا مَيلٌ
وَمَا طَوَتْ غَيْر مَا تُبْدِي طَوايَاهَا
8. How would the brilliant star not recognize her planet
When the auspicious influence guides her orbit
٨. وَكَيْفَ لا تَعْرِفُ الزَّهْرَاءُ كَوْكَبَهَا
إِذَا هَدى الطَّالِعُ المَيْمُونُ مَسْرَاهَا
9. The envious spoke but could they detract
From what the Bountiful Creator has granted her?
٩. قَال الحواسِدُ أَقْوالاً فَهَل نَقَصتْ
مِمَّا بِهِ المُبدِعُ المِجوَادُ حَلاَّهَا
10. You exalted her beyond any doubt
Even if they claimed she had equals in beauty
١٠. أَجْلَلْتَهَا فِي مَعَانِي النَّفْسِ عَنْ شَبَهٍ
وَإِنْ زَعَمْنَ لَهَا فِي الحُسْنِ أَشْباها
11. O son of the great, may God elevate them
From a family in which He concentrated its virtues
١١. يَا ابْنَ الأَكَابِرِ زادَ الله رِفْعَتَهُمْ
مِنْ أُسْرَةٍ لَخَّصَتْ فِيهِ مَزَايَاهَا
12. In Egypt, excellence has high standards
Even if it displayed its peaks there
١٢. لِلْفَضْلِ فِي مِصْرَ أَعْلامٌ سَمَتْ وَصُوًى
وَإِنْ أَظْهَرَهَا فِيهَا صَوَايَاهَا
13. If wealth has value beyond its price
Then hers is beyond what riches can grant
١٣. إِنْ كَانَ لِلْمَالِ قَدْرٌ فَوْقَ قِيمَتِهِ
فَقَدرُهَا فَوْقَ مَا الإِثْرَاءُ آتَاهَا
14. What a noble lad you are to my family
The soundest and gentlest of them in judgment
١٤. نِعْمَ الفَتَى هُوَ لَسِتِي فِي عَشِيرَتِهِ
إِنْ عُدَّ أَصوبُهَا رَأْياً وَأَمْضَاهَا
15. Your Master gifted you bountifully
And so you were not deficient in perfect reason
١٥. حَبَاهُ مَوْلاهُ بِالآلاءِ وَافِرَةً
فَلَمْ يَكُنْ لِتَمَامِ العَقْلِ تَيَّاهَا
16. You hide merits that your clan reveals
Though the most splendid are within you, concealed
١٦. يُخْفِي فَضَائِلَ تُبْدِيهَا فَعَائِلهُ
وَإِنْ أَرْوَعَهَا فِي النَّفْسِ أَخْفَاهَا
17. My two sons, so kind and blessed, take
The best that life can give from its joys
١٧. يَا ابْنَيَّ طِيبَا وَقُرَّا أَعْيُناً وَخُذَا
مِنَ المُنَى خَيْرَ مَا تُعْطِيهِ دُنْيَاهَا
18. Though God prolonged your lives
Life is but a moment, love is its meaning
١٨. إِن الحَياةَ أَطَالَ اللهُ عُمْرَكُمَا
لَيْسَتْ سِوَى لَفْظَةٍ وَالحُبُّ معنَاها
19. I see the ship in the harbor hoisting
Its sails, destiny watches over it
١٩. أَرَى السَّفِينَةَ فِي المِينَاءِ رَافِعَةً
شِرَاعَهَا وَعُيُونُ اليُمْنِ تَرْعَاهَا
20. For a voyage where a new life starts
And God steers its course and destination
٢٠. لِنُقْلَةٍ يَبْدأُ العَيْشُ الجَدِيدُ بِهَا
وَيَكْلأُ اللهُ مَجرَاهَا وَمُرْسَاهَا
21. Be happy and proud of your offspring
And attain glory, eminence, and status
٢١. كُونَا سَعِيدَيْنِ وَاعْتَزَّا بِنَسْلِكُمَا
واسْتَوْفَيَا العِزَّ وَالعَلْيَاءَِ وَالجَاهَا
