1. He embraces it, and the comrades who follow his lead,
The bonds of steadfast, resolute conviction that will not break.

2. And his companions are none but venerable, wise mentors,
If they miss the mark in the highest pursuits, they hit it.

3. And fine, noble youths, virtuous, bold and dutiful,
Who keep their word and fulfill what they have sworn,

4. They have excelled in what they have sworn by their own will.
Thus their oath was a sign of victory.

5. They marched on by his command, and truth led them,
So he sees them as one, and they see no fault in him.
