1. The doves cooed in the lofty branches
Of that honorable, pure tree,
١. عَصَفَ الحِمَامُ بِأَيِّ فَرْعٍ سَامِقِ
مِنْ ذَلِكَ الأَصْلِ الزَّكِيِّ البَاسِقِ
2. With its sweet-smelling shade and abundant fruit,
And its hills perfumed with meadowsweet.
٢. رَاوٍ رَطِيبِ الظَّل مَوْفُورِ الجَنى
ذَاكِي النَّوَاحِي بِالأَرِيجِ العَابِقِ
3. It was the speech of allegiance to the rightly-guided Imam,
A speech that struck at the heart of the matter precisely.
٣. خَطْبُ الكِنَانَةِ في الإِمَامِ المُجْتََبى
خَطْبٌ أَصَابَ صَمِيمَهَا مِنْ حَالِقِ
4. Have you not seen how on that gloomy day
The news struck like a thunderbolt?
٤. أَرَأَيْتَ فِي اليَوْمِ العَبُوسِ وُجُومَهَا
مِنْ ذَلِكَ النَّبإ الأَلِيمِ الصَّاعِقِ
5. O day whose cover you removed, bringing pitch darkness
In place of the shining lights of the brilliant dawn,
٥. يَا يَوْمَ طِيَّتهِ أَدَلْتَ دُجُنَّةً
نَكْرَاءَ مِنْ أَنْوَارِ أَوْهَرَ شَارِقِ
6. The lights of the blessed Meem of the victorious Al-Naqeeb,
The steadfast, supremely virtuous one.
٦. أَنْوَارِ مَيْمُونِ النَّقيبَةِ مَاجِدٍ
ثَبْتِ الحَصَاةِ مِنَ الطِّرَازِ الفَائِقِ
7. His homeland knew his loyalty,
And Al-Farooq looked after him caringly.
٧. عَرَفَتْ لَهُ أَوْطَانُهُ إِخْلاَصَهُ
وَرَعَاهُ فَارُوقٌ رِعَايَةَ وَاثِقِ
8. The pious philosopher of the world, who attained certainty,
Supported by truths, was not tempted
٨. أَلفَيْلَسُوفُ العَالِمُ الوَرِعُ الَّذِي
بَلَغَ اليَقِينَ مُدَعَّماً بِحَقَائِقِ
9. By the world's enticements of positions and comforts.
So he sought the most elevated station in his religion,
٩. لَمْ تُرْضِهِ الدَّنْيَا بِمَا بِذَلَتْ لَهُ
مِنْ مُغْرِيَاتٍ مَنَاصِبِ وَمَرَافِقِ
10. Coming closest in contemplating the Creator.
Religion and worldly life provide ample scope
١٠. فَسَمَا إِلَى مُتَبَوَّإٍ فِي دِينِهِ
أَدْنَى إِلَى اسْتِجْلاَءِ وَجْهِ الخَالِقِ
11. For the resourceful, straightforward, and truthful man.
Is there any eloquence in a writer's prose
١١. وَالدَّينُ وَالدُّنْيَا مَجَالُ كِفَايَةٍ
لِلعَبْقَرِيَّ المُسْتَقِيمِ الصَّادِقِ
12. To match his sweet, pure, delightful rhetoric?
Are there any treasures for the mind like his compositions
١٢. هَلْ مِنْ بَيَانٍ فِي تَرَسُّل كَاتِبٍ
كَبَيَانِهِ العَذْبِ النَّقيِّ الرَّائِقِ
13. And commentaries on every fascinating topic?
What caused the early lovers to censure him
١٣. هَلْ مِنْ مَتَاعٍ للعُقُولِ كَمَتْنِهِ
وَشُرُوحِهِ فِي كُلِّ بِحْثٍ شَائِقِ
14. As they roamed between East and West?
Glory to He who granted him the natural disposition of His creation
١٤. مَاذَا دَهَى فِيهِ المُحبِّينَ الأُولَى
رُزِئُوهُ بَيْنَ مَغَارِبٍ وَمَشَارِقِ
15. And completed it with fine traits and ethics.
How excellent a loyal friend he was to his family and companions,
١٥. سُبْحَانَ مُعْطِيهِ صَبَاحَةَ خَلْقِه
وَمُتِمُّها بِشَمَائِلٍ وَخَلاَئِقِ
16. Responding to every petitioner's knock!
Gentle and sparing of speech - if you ask something of him
١٦. نِعْمَ الوَفيُّ لأَهْلِهِ وَلصَحْبهِ
وَالمُسْتجِيبُ لِكُلِّ دَعْوَةِ طَارِقِ
17. You will hear the answers of the Speaking, Active One.
Resolute in events, accompanied by determination,
١٧. سَمْحٌ قَلِيلُ القَوْلِ إِنْ تَسْأَلْ بِهِ
تَسْمَعْ إِجَابَاتِ الفَعَالِ النَّاطِقِ
18. Which cannot be hampered from its purpose by any barrier.
So when contentions grow severe, his heart does not shrink
١٨. جَلْدٌ عَلَى الأَحْدَاثِ يَصْحَبُ هِمَّةً
لَيْسَتْ تُعَاقُ عَنِ المَرَامِ بِعَائِقِ
19. From engaging intensely in the pressing situation.
Making up what can be made up,
١٩. فَإِذَا تَفَاقَمَتِ المَعَاضِلُ لَمْ يَضِقْ
ذَرْعاً بِهَا فِي المَوْقِفِ المُتضَايِقِ
20. With the subtlest ways to beauty.
In God's custody, having parted,
٢٠. مُسْتَدْرِكاً مَا يُمْكِنُ اسْتِدْرَاكُهُ
وَلَهُ إِلَى الحُسْنَىِ لِطَافُ طَرَائِق
21. He is immortalized in memory, never absent.
His nation mourns him, and your departed one,
٢١. فِي ذِمَّة اللهِ العَلِي مُفَارِقٌ
هُوَ خَالِدّ بِالذّكْرِ غَيْرُ مُفَارِقِ
22. O Family of Abdurrazaaq, was its departed one.
He was an intermediary who shone radiantly between you
٢٢. تَبْكِيهِ أُمَّتهُ وَإِنَّ فَقِيدَكُمْ
لَفَقِيدُهَا يَا آلَ عَبْدِ الرَّازِقِ
23. In every splendid, well-proportioned era.
So his loss is the ransom for the remainder,
٢٣. قَدْ كَانَ وَاسِطَةً تَأَلَّقَ بَيْنَكُمْ
فِي أَي عِقْدٍ فَاخِرٍ مُتَنَاسقِ
24. The scattered pearls from a compatible source.
How many a steadfast, high-minded Ali,
٢٤. فَإِذَا هَوَتْ فَهِيَ الفِدَى لِبَقِيَّةٍ
شَتَّى الحِلَى مِنْ مَصْدَرٍ مُتَوَافِقِ
25. If the name of the foremost is counted among the two?
How many a perceptive, resolute Ismail in his own field
٢٥. كَمْ مِنْ عَليٍّ بِالحَصَافَةِ وَالنَّدَى
إِنْ عُدَّ فِي شَوْطَيْهِمَا اسْمُ السَّابِقِ
26. Glides effortlessly, with none to overtake him?
Two treasures whom we hope God will protect,
٢٦. كَمْ حَازِمٍ فَطِنٍ كَإِسْمَاعِيلَ فِي
مِضْمَارِهِ يَشْأُو وَمَا مِنْ لاَحِقِ
27. For they are solace for every stricken heart.
٢٧. ذُخْرَانِ نَرْجُو اللهَ أَنْ يَرْعَاهُمَا
فَهُمَا العَزَاءُ لِكُل قَلْبٍ وَامِقِ
