1. Time has stopped, so your promise has no appointment
Space has pardoned, so your covenant has no covenant

2. It is an ascension for you in life and an absence
Like a shadow when it appears and when it disappears

3. Yesterday you were and yesterday on the horizon of the meeting
The veil was torn so from you was the birth

4. Yesterday you were and you were a playing child
A bird that rises early chirping and singing

5. Yesterday you were the fresh, prudent one
Whose friends sang his praises and recited his poems

6. Yesterday students of the highest aspirations
Your ambition brought you near to the farthest goals

7. Yesterday, opening free press
Its pillows were sweet and the stream was pleasing

8. Yesterday, defending the weak without
Tiring of struggle though the eyelids droop

9. Yesterday, inspired as an orator or writer
The hearing delights and the advice is well-guided

10. Yesterday, undaunted for your people, decisive
To build for them a haven of strength and firmness

11. Yesterday, bestowing kindnesses and dew
So that beside each hand you see a hand

12. Yesterday, abundant in bliss, blessed
In a family aiming for glory as its purpose

13. They hope for your numbers to multiply through it
And the eye of generosity rejoices that they abound

14. Yesterday you were and all that was
And today .. no yesterday you have become, nor tomorrow

15. Today, whoever the Wise Redeemer willed among us
And whoever the great Leader willed

16. Today, no Thomas or books or
Speeches or praise to which you return

17. Today no avail, no glory, no
Home which the dissolute usurp and delight in

18. Today, no man called the gallant one
And no protector referred to as the supplier

19. Today, if time is unjust, unjust
Gone is he whose side it would defend

20. Today, if a friend calls his friend
Deaf is friendship, blind is kindness, bleary-eyed

21. The honest one died, his hiding and revealing
The loyal one died, his absence and presence

22. In a loneliness like the desert, no one patched him
A home there, and no return came to him

23. Alas I betrayed the one who took refuge
So I left him beneath the knives to be slaughtered

24. And he came to you to be healed with beneficial water
But I returned him to his shroud a corpse to be buried

25. But the unjust West has passed, its sunset passing
No matter, from the East he arose and slept

26. The affliction is wide, and no objection, for it is
The Decree of the Almighty, and what power have we over it?

27. O Lord, make us safe, and if sorrow
Has left us anxious and split our livers

28. Your ordainment for Your servants, for they
Are riders of mortality while You, You are Eternal

29. The sun rises by Your grace, elucidating
And the sun sets by Your justice, prostrating
