1. Serenity, O noble daughter of the Khouri family,
And happiness in the evenings and mornings.
١. صَفَاءً يَا كرِيمَةَ آلِ خُوري
وَسَعْداً فِي العَشِيَّة وَالبُكُورِ
2. You are, O bride of poetry, created
With the temperament of dew and light.
٢. كَأَنَّك يا عَرُوسَ الشعْرِ خلْقاً
وَخُلْقاً مِنْ مِزْاجِ نِدى ونُورِ
3. Every beauty refused except to be compared
To your eyes and maidens.
٣. أَبَى لَكِ كُلُّ حُسْنٍ أَنْ تُقَاسِي
مُشَابَهَةً إِلى عِينٍ وَحُور
4. Nor did the virgins match you with justice
Of mind and pure heart.
٤. وَلا أَبِيكِ ما عَدَلَتْكِ بِكْرٌ
بِعدْلِ الرَّأْيِ وَالْقَلْبِ الطَّهُورِ
5. Greeted like the morning, you have purity
That could almost heal the innermost soul,
٥. مُحَيّا كَالصَّباحِ لَهُ نَقَاءٌ
يُكَادُ يَشِفُّ عَنْ أَقْصَى الضَّمِيرِ
6. And words that hint of amiability
As the breeze hints of perfume.
٦. وأَلْفاظٌ تَنُمُّ عنِ السَّجايَا
كَما نَمَّ النَّسيمُ عَنِ العبِيرِ
7. A composure that shames the delicate branch,
With flowers and gentleness in gait.
٧. وَقَدٌّ يُخْجِلُ الْغُصْنَ اعَتِدَالاً
وأزهَاراً وَلُطْفاً فِي الخُطُورِ
8. Your manners are created without fault
For you have lived without criticism.
٨. إِخَالُكِ قَدْ خُلِقْتِ بِغَيْرِ عَيْبٍ
لأَنَّك قَدْ حَيِيتِ بِلا نَكِيرِ
9. I attempt, in brief words, to describe
What you have been given of abundant virtue.
٩. أُحَاوِلُ فِي يَسِيرِ الْقَوْلِ وَصْفاً
لمَا أُوِتيتِ مِنْ فَضْلٍ كِثيرِ
10. In my hope is the adornment of a generous angel,
Beyond what verse or prose can contain.
١٠. وفِي إِملِي حُلى مَلَكٍ كَرِيمٍ
فَما وُسْع النظِيمِ أَوِ النَّثِيرِ
11. For you deserve the love of a noble soul,
Lofty in sentiment and feeling.
١١. لأَنْتِ جَديرَةٌ بِأَحَبِّ رُوحٍ
كَرِيمٍ طَبْعُهُ سَامِي الشُّعورِ
12. John, though not audacious,
Is worthy of the best of any sweet companion.
١٢. بِيُوحَنَّا وَإِنْ هُوَ غَيْرُ شَهْمٍ
بِأَفْضَلِ كلِّ آنِسَةٍ جَديرِ
13. A young man of two noble lineages,
Yet not arrogant or conceited.
١٣. فَتىً بِالنَّبعَتَيْنِ عَرِيقُ فَخْرٍ
وَلكِنْ لَيْسَ بِالصَّلفِ الفَخُورِ
14. Lofty in what he seeks for his dignity,
Glorious in his journey.
١٤. بَعِيدُ الشَّأوِ فِيمَا يَبْتَغِيهِ
لِرِفْعَتِهِ مُجِدٌّ فِي المَسِيرِ
15. And his resolute soul is not content
With anything less than the most serious cause.
١٥. وما تَرْضَى عَزَائِمُهُ المَوَاضِي
لَهُ شأْناً سِوَى الشَّأْنِ الخَطِيرِ
16. Gentle in nature, his youth still ahead,
In him are the traits of a great man.
١٦. رَقِيقُ الطَّبعِ مُقْتَبَلٌ صِبَاهُ
وَفِيهِ شَمَائِلُ الرَّجُلِ الْكبِيرِ
17. So God has blessed a wedding in weddings,
A glorious sun to a shining full moon!
١٧. فَحَيَّا اللّهُ فِي الأَعْرَاسِ عُرْساً
جَلا شَمْساً إِلى بدْرٍ مُنِيرِ
18. And O twin moons of our dwellings, congratulations!
May your marriage last, ever joyful,
١٨. وَيَا قَمَرَيْ مَرَابِعنَا هَنِيئاً
قِرَانُكُمَا فَدُومَا فِي سُرُورِ
19. With goodness, and flourish in safety and prosperity
The length of days in the ink of destiny.
١٩. وَطِيبا وَارْفُلا أَمْناً ويُمْناً
مَدَى الأَيَّامِ فِي حِبَرِ الحُبُورِ
20. May the beauty of your happiness add majesty
With righteous, pious offspring abundant!
٢٠. يَزِيدُ جمالُ سَعْدُكُمَا جلالا
بِنَسْلٍ صَالِحٍ بَرٍّ كَثِيرِ
