1. We sped across the fields, swift in our ride,
On a steed continuous, like a flowing rope,
١. طَويْنَا الحُقُولَ سِرَاعَ الْمَسِيرِ
عَلَى مَتْنِ مُتَّصلٍ كَالسَّببْ
2. We passed a verdant, alluring pasture,
With emeralds peeking through like specks of hope.
٢. نَمُرُّ بِخَضْرَاءَ فَتَّانَةَ
لَها مِنْ زُمُرُّدِهَا مُنْتَقَبْ
3. Stretching far, to meet the eye's longing,
It swayed with trees over its darling slopes,
٣. إلى مُرْتَمَى العُيْنِ مَبْسُوطَةٌ
تَمُوجُ بِأَشْجَارهَا عَنْ حَبَبْ
4. Its rivers flowed under the noon sun's glow,
Spilling plenty, as continuous as heartbeats.
٤. وَأَنْهَارُهَا تَحْتَ نُورِ الزَّوَالِ
تَفِيضُ بِطَاءً بِمثْلِ الضَّرَبْ
5. In the horizon, the sun had its setting place,
We saw in it, a sign of awe and grace.
٥. وَلِلشَّمسِ فِي الْمُنْتَهَى مَغْرِبٌ
رَأَيْنَا بِهِ آيَةً مِنْ عَجَبْ
6. We saw a towering mass of clouds advance,
Upon its horizon, ascend and prance,
٦. رَأَيْنَا مِنَ الْغَيْمِ طوداً رَسَا
عَلَى أُفْقِهَا وَسَمَا وَاشْرَأَبْ
7. With a body of thick darkness, and peak of snow,
And foothills with tongues of flame in tow.
٧. بِجِسْمِ ظَلاَمٍ وَقِمَّة تِبْرٍ
وَسَفْحٍ تَعَارِيجُهُ مِنْ لَهَبْ
8. As if its rays amidst it,
Were caverns in a mine of gold.
٨. كَأَنَّ الأشِعَّة أَثْنَاءَهُ
مَغَاوِرُ في مَنْجَمٍ مِنْ ذَهَبْ
9. A deer caught our gazes,
Its horns climbed then forked and splayed.
٩. وَرَاعَ نَوَاظِرَنَا أَيِّلٌ
مَضَى قَرْنُهُ صُعُداً وَانْشَعَبْ
10. It turned, glanced with two rubies,
Its flesh and tail bled, as it strayed.
١٠. تَلَفَّت يَرْنُو بِيَاقُوتَتَيْنِ
وَسَالَ دَماً صُلْبُهُ وَالذَّنَبْ
11. How many gardens, how many towns,
How many citadels, how many domes,
١١. وَكَمْ مِنْ جِنَانٍ وَكَمْ مِنْ قُرَىً
وَكَمْ مِنْ صُرُوحٍ وَكَمْ مِنْ قُبَبْ
12. Are paintings made by a skilled hand,
Created by the Unseen whom it loves.
١٢. تَصَاوِيرُ يَصْنَعُهَا مَاهِرٌ
مِنَ الْغَيْبِ يُبْدِعُهَا مَا أَحَبْ
13. It continues to vary their forms,
Grasping yet untouched by any pains.
١٣. يَظَلُّ يُنَوِّعُ أَشْكَالَهَا
دِرَاكاً وَلا يَعْتَريهِ نَصَبْ
