1. You built Egypt's first treasury
With it the country's prosperity was assured
١. بَنَيْتَ لِمِصْرَ أَوَّلَ بَيْت مَالٍ
بِهِ يُسْتَدُّ عُمْرَانُ الدِّيَارِ
2. Can kingdoms in this world endure
Without accumulating and storing wealth?
٢. هَلْ لِمَمَالِكِ الدُّنْيَا قَوَامٌ
بِلاَ وَفْرٍ يُعُدُّ وَلاَ ادِّخَارِ
3. And can facilities grow in lands
Where capital's yield is banned?
٣. وَهَلْ تَنْمُوا الْمَرَافِقُ فِي بِلاَدٍ
وَأَصْلُ الْمَالِ مُمْتَنَعُ الثِّمَارِ
4. Can anything urge endeavor
Like feeling capable and clever?
٤. وَهَلْ يَدْعُو إِلى الإِقْدَامِ شيءٌ
كَمَا يَدْعُو الشُّعُورُ بِالاقْتِدَارِ
5. Great is what you have done for Egypt's good
So who most deserves pride in the nation?
٥. عَظِيمٌ مَا فَعَلْتَ لِخَيْرِ مِصْرَ
فَمَنْ فِي الْقَوْمِ أَوْلَى بِالْفَخَارِ
6. I saw your star was rising
As stars withdrew to their hiding
٦. أَطَلْعَتُ أَنَّ نَجْمُكَ فِي صُعُودٍ
إِذَا عَادَ النُّجُومُ إِلى السَّرَارِ
7. So live long to see your blessed work
And successive blooms, not just a first spurt!
٧. فَعِشْ لِصَنِيِعكَ الْمَيْمُونِ وَاشْهَدْ
تَعَاقُبَ الازْدِهَارِ بِالازْدِهَارِ
8. You allowed a wish, so my heart rejoiced
Yet from you my eyes demurred
٨. سَمَحْتَ بِدَعْوَةٍ فَأَجَابَ قَلْبِي
وَعِيقَتْ عَنْكَ عَيْنِي بِاضْطِرَارِ
9. So my heart sends you thanks
While my eyes apology murmur
٩. فَعَنْ قَلْبِي أَزفُّ إِليْكَ شُكْرِي
وَعَنْ عَيْنِي أَخفُّ لِلاعْتِذَارِ
