1. Since resolute determination declined,
And the assemblage of grave matters increased,

2. The beloved of exalted ideals passed away,
The enemy of injustices passed away,

3. The young man of forbearance and good mannerism passed away,
The sublime and the noble passed away,

4. An era which he soon enveloped,
With this overwhelming decree,

5. And a nation from whose chastisements
Illusions of a dreamer perished,

6. In every assembly of merit,
The bereavements stood over it,

7. What did knowledge avail in it?
While the most expert scholar passed away,

8. Doubt has stuck to medicine,
As if it were a destructive axe,

9. And it became well-known in every soul,
That caution does not make immune,

10. In spite of every courageous man,
O lion cub you surely overwhelmed,

11. You were stricken suddenly, and this
Is more appropriate for the pride of the strong,

12. Today you rest unwillingly,
While time around you stands,

13. Like the standing of a sea, whose billows
And clouds have collided,

14. Its drowned rests reassured,
And its waves clash,

15. This lasting inertia was not of your morals,
After the struggle constantly unwearying,

16. And after the zeal of great efforts,
For praise not blaming,

17. O inhabitant of the narrow tomb,
While the horizons were expansive,

18. Perhaps your heart in it,
Is awake while the eyelids sleep,

19. A secret I ask about,
The day of fire every resolute person,

20. What perplexes an answer,
Removes perplexity from an assailant,

21. Do you rest while you were
A guarantor for the protected?

22. You have spent the most tiring that passed,
Without a disputed right,

23. And you went where the most resting of visitors would despair,
In the captivity of soft yarn,

24. While you can undo the strong,
You left your world afire,

25. Kindled at the hands of a tyrant,
It has become a place for deaths,

26. Between the warring armies,
You were the band of harmony in it, and the war of generosity,

27. You invigorate the mind, justice, and the unjust nations,
Against the panel of disobedience,

28. And the violator of the prohibited,
You complain of misery for a rapacious one,

29. Who some spoils are claimed for him,
You blame every painful blamer,

30. Since there is no blamer among the people,
You have not ceased being loyal,

31. To every amicable opponent,
And you have not ceased being a supporter,

32. Of your brother while time was hostile,
If fate faced you one day,

33. You distributed all its shares,
Leaving you only,

34. The lowest portion of partners,
And if you passed away in absence,

35. Then who would make your absent revert?
The house of healing is a frequented shrine,

36. That every passing visitor arrives to it,
Undeterred by a departed,

37. Until meeting a newcomer,
In it is a cure for illness,

38. And ointments for wounds,
Not by God’s reckoning, but

39. The generosity and mercy of the Merciful,
Of a great aromatic plant,

40. That was not arrogant,
It heals the bodies and casts

41. Off the worries from the minds,
It seeks the guidance for every nation,

42. To the suitable reform,
And it does not resent sincere advice,

43. Firm and a conclusive opinion,
As if in its hands, is lightning,

44. Striking on swords unsheathed,
The signs of clear prose,

45. And the verses of the composer,
Are the purpose of every wise person,

46. And the piety of every ruler,
Fantasies sometimes overwhelm the facts in it,

47. For God you are a fancy,
A pleasant recurring one,

48. For the sake of your nation how much
You spent in nights keeping them company,

49. No distress of yours will be relieved,
That has been growing,

50. And you do not tire from a struggle,
For which hope is a constant companion,

51. Those far countries,
On the obstinate tyrants,

52. Become more inflamed for them,
The more crimes increased in them,

53. You disdain any injustice to them,
While time is biased,

54. If not for it and ignorance - I mean -
There would have remained no unjust on earth,

55. O you who passed away from praise,
Filling the generous souls,

56. Your remembrance has dwelt,
In skins among humankind,

57. By it the ship of light sailed,
On pouring tearful waters,

58. To the shores of illuminated glory,
With landmarks,

59. So the course between seasons was not missed that day,
The rains of your place were poured unstinting,

60. With the merciful downpour.
