1. O my president, family and kin
You have raised my status, with what celebration
١. يَا رَئِيسِي وَأَوْلِيَائِي وَآلِي
قَدْ رَفَعْتُمُ شَأْنِي بِأَيِّ احْتِفَالِ
2. The elite of the East gathered merit
And stature, I see them around me
٢. جَمَعَ الفَضْلَ صَفْوَةُ الشَّرْقِ جَاهاً
وَمَقَامَاً أَرْاهُمْ حِيَالِي
3. Alas, O our venerable chief, be gentle
In the path of kindness and favor
٣. إِيهِ يَا شَيْخَنَا العَمِيدَ وَمَهْلاً
فِي سَبِيلِ الإِحْسَانِ وَالإِجْمَال
4. You have excelled with eloquent miracle, and my ineptness
Is apparent, so be gentle with my state
٤. جُدْتَ بِالمُعْجِزِ البَلِيغِ وَعَجْزِي
دُونَهُ ظَاهِرٌ فَرِفْقاً بِحَالِي
5. You deserve the purest that every soul desires
Of pride, though my words do not increase
٥. لَكَ أَزْكَى مَا تَشْتَهِي كُلُّ نَفْسٍ
مِنْ فَخَارٍ فَمَا يَزِيدُ مَقَالِي
6. It is no novelty, O noble Yusuf
What we see in you of the noble traits
٦. لَيْسَ يَا يُوسُفُ العَزِيزُ بِبِدْعٍ
مَا نَرَى فِيكَ مِنْ كَرِيمِ الخِلاَلِ
7. Such are you and the branches you have sprouted
From the planter of dignity and perfection
٧. هَكَذَا أَنْتَ وَالفُرُوعُ الَّتِي أَنْبَتَّهَا
مَنْبِتَ الحِجَى وَالكَمَالِ
8. Your benevolent soul has urged you, so you did not neglect
My affection on the side of disregard
٨. حَفَزَتْكَ النَّفْسُ الودُودُ فَلَمْ تَتْرُكْ
وِدَادِي فِي جَانِبِ الإِغْفَالِ
9. And you have scattered the eloquent scattering with what your virtue
Inspired, even if beyond my presumption
٩. وَنَثَرْتَ النَّثْرَ البَدِيعَ بِمَا فَضْلُكَ
أُوْحَى وَإِنْ عَدَا اسْتِئْهَالِي
10. I do not see in praise more eloquent than
What you have attained from the pleasure of the high station
١٠. مَا أَرَى فِي الثَّنَاءِ أَبْلَغَ مِمَّا
نِلْتَهُ مِنْ رِضَا المَقَامِ العَالِي
11. The era of that station is the most honorable covenant
Preserved in hearts, a loyal people
١١. عَهْدُ ذَاكَ المَقَامِ أَكْرَمُ مَا يَحْفَظُهُ
فِي القُلُوبِ شَعْبٌ مُوَالِي
12. There is not among us, nor from us, any resentful
Or ungrateful to its ongoing kindness
١٢. لَيْسَ فِينَا وَلَيْسَ مِنَّا كَنُودٌ
أَوْ جَحُودٌ لِبِرَّهِ المُتَوَالِي
13. The throne of Egypt has bestowed upon us shades
And melodies – an inspiration from those shades
١٣. عَرْشُ مِصْر أَضْفَى عَلَيْنَا ظِلاَلاً
وَالأغَارِيدُ وَحْيُ تِلْكَ الظِّلاَلِ
14. All who are endowed with eloquence have fulfilled
The rights of reverence and veneration
١٤. كُلُّ مَنْ وَاتَتِ الفَصَاحَةُ وَفا
هُ حُقُوقَ الإِكْبَارِ وَالإِجْلاَلِ
15. With winged determination, they have gathered
Around it, in the succession of conditions
١٥. بِقَوَافٍ مُجَنَّحَاتٍ تَلاَقَتْ
حَوْلَهُ فِي تَعَاقُبِ الأحْوَالِ
16. My burden has increased, O brother Salim, so what gratitude
Can fulfill what is due to the virtuous brother
١٦. زَادَ عِبْئِي أَخي سَلِيمٌ فَأي الشَّكْرِ
يَقْضِي مَا لِلأَخِ المِفْضَالِ
17. You have quenched souls with a drink
Flowing from that chain
١٧. أَشَفَتْ مِنْكُمُ النُّفُوسَ نِطَافٌ
جَارِيَاتٌ مِنْ ذلِكَ السَّلْسَالِ
18. An outpouring from a repository of knowledge and
Literature in which is every question's answer
١٨. فَيْضُ مَوْسُوعَةٍ مِنْ العِلْمِ وَالآ
دَابِ فِيهَا جَوَابُ كُلِّ سُؤَالِ
19. Satisfying us, between poetry and prose
With the exquisite adornments and the lofty imagination
١٩. يَصْطَبِينَا مَا بَيْنَ شِعْرٍ وَنَثْرٍ
بِبَدِيعِ الحِلَى وَسَامِي الخَيَالِ
20. Mukhwiris is a brilliant Mudirah
Whose success in debate surpasses debate
٢٠. مَنْ كَمُورِيسَ مِدْرَهٌ أَلْمَعِيٌّ
فَوْزُهُ فِي الجِدَالِ فَوْقَ الجِدَالِ
21. He has supported my stance today, and the credentials
Are few, so return without being few
٢١. أَيَّدَ اليَوْمَ مَوْقِفِي وَالأسَانِيدُ
ضِئَالٌ فَعُدْنَ غَيْرَ ضِئَالِ
22. He has triumphed in his lap, so who can I have
Any chance, in his lap or milestones
٢٢. جَالَ فِي شَوْطِهِ وَصَالَ فَمَنْ لِي
بِمَجَالٍ فِي شَوْطِهِ أَوْ مَصَالِ
23. He is of the youth of sacrifice, so it is not objectionable
From him, this overzealousness in love
٢٣. هُوَ مِنْ فِتْيَةِ الفِدَاء فَمَا يُنْكَرُ
مِنْهُ فِي الحُبِّ هَذَا التَّغَالِي
24. Ghanim has cast for me brilliant jewels, and the victor
Is the one adorned with those jewels
٢٤. صَاغَ لِي غَانِمٌ لآلِيءَ وَالغَانِمُ
مَنْ زَانَهُ بِتِلْكَ الَّلآلِي
25. That necklace from him I have witnessed
The likes in the necklaces of eras
٢٥. تِلْكَ مِنْهُ قِلاَدَتِي أَشَهِدْتُمْ
مِثْلَهَا فِي قَلاَئِدِ الأقْيَالِ
26. His voice rises in the circles of the generation
And its echo in the hearing of generations
٢٦. صَوْتُهُ فِي مَحَافِلِ الجِيلِ يَعْلُو
وَصَدَاهُ فِي مَسْمَعِ الأجْيَالِ
27. He showed me kindness in my old age, so the gift of the cub
Preserved the awe of the grizzly
٢٧. بَرَّ بِي رَأْفَةً بِسنَّي فَصَانَتْ
هَبَّةُ الشِّبْلِ هَيْبَةً الرِّئْبَالِ
28. We were once what you are today, so live
The sturdiest trees grow sturdiest
٢٨. نَحْنُ كُنَّا مَا أَنْتُمُ اليَوْمَ فَاحْيَوْا
يَلْبَثِ الغِيلُ أَمْنَعَ الأغْيَالِ
29. Then this description which delights the eye
Came from a silent brother
٢٩. ثُمَّ هَذَا وَصْفٌ بِهِ تُكْحَلُ العَيْنُ
أَتَى مِنْ أَخٍ كَتُومِ النَّوَالِ
30. Arshid – he is the comforting doctor
And the healer of ribs and limbs
٣٠. أَرَشِيدٌ وَهْوَ الطَّبِيبُ المُوَاسِي
وَهْوَ آسِي الضُّلُوعِ وَالأَوْصَالِ
31. He practices curing souls with poetry
In which the teardrop mixed with the medicinals
٣١. يَتَعَاطَى بُرْءَ النُّفُوسِ بِشِعْرٍ
خَالَطَ القَطْرُ فِيهِ بِنْتَ الدَّوَالِي
32. Generosity, if I wore what robed me
I would drag the envious in my train
٣٢. كَرَمٌ لَوْ لَبِسْتُ مِمَّا كَسَانِي
لَجَرَرْتُ الحَسُّادَ فِي أَذْيَالِي
33. Your musical instrument, O virtuous Sam, enchants
With its keys both locks and unveilings
٣٣. أَشَجَاكُمْ كَمَانُ سَامٍ وَأَلْعَا
بُ المَفَاتِيحِ فِيهِ وَالأقفالِ
34. In its wondrous strings lies no temptation
Of illicit magic or sorcery made lawful
٣٤. مَا بِأَوْتَارِهِ العَجِيبَةِ مِنْ فِتْنَةِ
سِرٍّ رَاقٍ وَسِحْرٍ حَلاَلِ
35. The garden's nightingale, if it sang celebratory
Or improvised, captivated hearing
٣٥. بُلْبُلُ الرِّوْضِ إِنْ شَدَا بِاحْتِفَالٍ
مَلَكَ السَّمْعَ أَوْ شَدَا بِارْتِجَالِ
36. It has no peer save Fadil
Excellent harmonizer and excellent profiler
٣٦. مَا لَهُ مِنْ أَخٍ سِوَى فَاضِلٍ
نِعْمَ المُجَلِّي فَنًّا وَنِعْمَ التَّالِي
37. Your rhythms, O Shahrurah of Wadi, enthrall
As the system attains perfection
٣٧. أَسَبَاكُمْ إِيقَاعُ شَحْرُورَةِ الوَا
دِي وَرَهْطٌ نِظَامُهُ فِي اكْتِمَالِ
38. They have brought back, while hearts dance accordingly
The dances of poetry and lyrics
٣٨. رَجَّعْتْ وَالقُلُوبُ تَرْقُصُ وَفْقاً
مُرْقِصَاتِ الأشْعَارِ وَالأَزْجَالِ
39. And melodies of tenderness, coquetry,
Flirtations of youth, and my devotion
٣٩. وَأَهَازِيجَ نَخْوَةٍ وَعِتَابٍ
وَمَجَانَاتِ صَبْوَةٍ وَمَوَالِي
40. O you who sing, you have heard me
Melodies that do not quit my mind
٤٠. أَيُّهَا المُنْشِدُونَ أَسْمَعْتُمُونِي
نَغَمَاتٍ لاَ تَبْرَحُ العُمْرَ بَالِي
41. The warbling of infants - never
Forgotten, nor the tune of farewell at separation
٤١. زَغْرَدَاتُ الرَّضَاعِ هَيْهَاتَ أَنْ
تُنْسَى وَلَحْنُ الوَدَاعِ يَوْمَ الفِصَالِ
42. O days of youth, soon to pass
Among people I have left, not parted
٤٢. يَا لَعَهْدِ الصِّبَا تَقَضَّى وَشِيكاً
بَيْنَ أَهْلٍ فَارَقْتُهُمْ غَيْرَ سَالِ
43. In a land to which my heart has returned
Every land where I pitched my encampment
٤٣. فِي بِلاَدٍ رَدَّتْ إِلَيْهَا فُؤَادِي
كُلُّ أَرْضٍ حَطَطْتُ فِيهَا رَحَالي
44. What yearning stirs in the core
Of the ardent from memories of its plains and mountains
٤٤. أَيُّ شَجْوٍ تُثِيرُهُ فِي حَشَى
المُشْتَاقِ ذِكْرَى سُهُولِهَا وَالجِبَالِ
45. What sweet water, what fragrant air
In the gardens and groves
٤٥. أَيُّ مَاءٍ عَذْبٍ وَأَيُّ هَوَاءٍ
أَرِج فِي الرِّيَاضِ وَالأَدْغَالِ
46. What emerald sea surrounded
By a frame of sandy coasts
٤٦. أَيُّ بَحْرٍ زُمُرُّدِيِّ مُحَاطٍ
بِإِطَارٍ مِنْ عَسْجَدِيِّ الرِّمَالِ
47. What beauty in all that meets the eye
Of its fine vistas and scenery
٤٧. أَيُّ حُسْنٍ فِي كُلِّ مَا تَقَعُ العَيْنُ
عَلَيْهِ مَنْ مُونِقَاتِ المَجَالِي
48. Of its people, who have lived the ages
And purified their deeds through strife
٤٨. مَنْ كَأَبْنَائِهَا وقَدْ نَازَلُوا الدَّهْرَ
فَزَكَّوْا أَحْسَابَهُمْ بِالنِّزَالِ
49. If few in number, then ask
Between the far poles about their great deeds
٤٩. إِنْ يَقلُّوا عَدًّا فَسَلْ فِي مَدَى
القُطْبَيْنِ عَنْهُمْ جَلاَئِلَ الأَعْمَالِ
50. The summits of minarets in the riverbeds
Or the slopes of hills have taught them
٥٠. عَلَّمَتْهُمْ صُمُّ الجَلاَمِيدِ فِي جُو
نِ الأخَادِيدِ أَوْ ضَوَاحِي القِلاَلِ
51. What resolve takes in avoiding precipices
What determination takes in ascending aspirations
٥١. مَا هُوَ الحَزْمُ فِي إِتِّقَاءِ المَهَاوِي
ما هُوَ العَزْمُ فِي ارْتِقَاءِ المَعَالِي
52. What daring says to the false fate
Facing the truthful fate
٥٢. مَا يَقُولُ الإِقَدَامُ فِي كَاذِبِ الأوْ
جَالِ تِلْقَاءَ صَادِقِ الآجَالِ
53. O children of our first mother, avoid sickness
And roam all the land's expanse
٥٣. يَا بَنِي أُمِّنَا الأُولَى أَبْعَدُوا المَرْ
مَى وَجَالُوا فِي الأرْضِ كُلَّ مَجَالِ
54. Between its settled and desolate parts
Between the distant south and north
٥٤. بَيْنَ مَعْمُورِهَا وَغَامِرِهَا
بَيْنَ الجَنُوبِ النَّائِي وَبَيْنَ الشَّمَالِ
55. And with excellence wherever they headed
They were the pride of the traveling
٥٥. وَبِحُسْنِ البَلاَءِ فِي كُلِّ قُطْرٍ
يَمَّمُوهُ كَانُوا فَخَارَ الجَوَالِي
56. O children of our mother Egypt, and among them
To my right and left, most beloved
٥٦. فَأعَزُّوا مَوَاطِناً أَنْبَتَتْهُمْ
بِضُرُوبٍ مِنْ مَاهِرَاتِ الفعَالِ
57. The nation of the East flourishes with virile
Hunters from you, and with charming girls
٥٧. يَا بَنِي أُمِّنَا بِمِصْرٍ وَمِنْهُمْ
عَنْ يَمِينِي أَعِزَّةٌ وَشَمَالِي
58. And men in every science and art
And innovation, elites among men
٥٨. أَمَّةُ الشَّرْقِ تَزْدَهِي بِالبَنِيْنَ
الصِّيدِ مِنْكُمْ وَبِالبَنَاتِ الغَوَالِي
59. And women of every beauty and refinement
Noble, they are tempting coquettes
٥٩. وَرِجَالٍ فِي كُلِّ عِلْمٍ وَفَنٍّ
وَابْتِدَاعٍ هُمْ صَفْوَةٌ فِي الرِّجَالِ
60. Egypt, to which we fled
With loads of worries, burdens heavy
٦٠. وَنِسَاءٍ بِكُلِّ حُسْنٍ وَإِحْسَا
نٍ شَرِيفٍ هُنَّ الغَوَانِي الحَوَالِي
61. When our meadows were under tyranny
And its free children in shackles
٦١. إِنَّ مِصْرَ الَّتِي نَفَرْنَا إِلَيْهَا
بِحُمُولٍ مِنَ الهُمُومِ ثِقَالِ
62. And the guided preachers, but when they took
Refuge in Egypt, they drank bitter torture
٦٢. يَوْمَ كَانَتْ رُبُوعُنَا تَحْتَ رِقٍّ
وَبنُوهَا الأحْرَارُ فِي الأغْلاَلِ
63. It settled us in a house of honor that consoles
All who left other houses, discontent
٦٣. وَالدُّعَاةُ الهُدَاةُ إِلاَّ إِذَا لاَ
ذُوا بِمِصْرَ يُسْقَوْنَ مُرَّ النَّكَالِ
64. Its spacious chest did not resent what
It was tasked, with no influx or expatriates
٦٤. أَنْزَلَتْنَا دَاراً مِنَ العِزِّ تُسْلي
كُلَّ نَاءٍ عَنْ دَارِهِ غَيْرِ قَالِ
65. That was an era in which the Arabs suffered
Affliction and humiliation they suffered
٦٥. لَمْ يَضِقْ صَدْرُهَا الرَّحِيبُ عَلَى مَا
كُلِّفَتْهُ بِلاَجِيءٍ أَوْ بِجَالِي
66. Then it passed, praise cannot accompany mention of it
And the days of independence arrived
٦٦. ذَاكَ عَصْرٌ عَانَى بِهِ العُرْبُ مَا عَا
نَوْهُ مِنْ مِحْنَةٍ وَمِنْ إِذْلاَلِ
67. Free nations renewed within them
The birth of glory after decadence
٦٧. فَتَقَضَّى لاَ يَصْحَبُ الحَمْدُ ذِكْرَا
هُ وَلاَحَتْ أَيَّامُ الاِسْتِقْلاَلِ
68. Egypt assumes leadership among them
And it is a right, none contests it
٦٨. دُوَلٌ حُرَّةٌ تَجَدَّدَ فِيهَا
تَالِدُ المَجْدِ بَعْدَ الاِضْمِحْلاَلِ
69. A paradise next to another paradise next to another
Oh, if only their cord remained connected
٦٩. تَتَوَلَّى مِصْرُ الزَّعَامَةَ فِيهَا
وَهْيَ حَقٌّ مَا حوْلَهُ مِنْ نِضَالِ
70. One homeland, so if homelands move
Then joining them is inclusive gathering
٧٠. جَنَّةٌ عَنْدَ جَنَّةٍ عِنْدَ أُخْرَى
آهِ لَوْ ظَلَّ حَبْلُهَا فِي اتِّصَالِ
71. God has favored the Nile Valley – was any valley given
Beauty and majesty like it possesses?
٧١. وَطَنٌ وَاحِدٌ فَإِنْ نَقُلِ الأَوْطَانَ
فَالجَمْعُ فِيهِ جَمْعُ اشْتِمَالِ
72. And this wondrous fertility which was and remains
A parable people cite
٧٢. كَلأَ اللهُ وَادِيَ النَّيلِ هَلْ أُوْ
تيَ وَادٍ كَحُسْنِهِ وَالجَلاَلِ
73. And these trustworthy people who were granted
The sweetest attributes and traits
٧٣. وَكَهَذَا الخِصْبِ العَجِيبِ الَّذِي كَا
نَ وَمَا زَالَ مَضْرِبَ الأمْثَالِ
74. They are a people free of tempers, generous
And too proud to compromise their dignity
٧٤. وَكَهَذَا الشَّعْبِ الأَمِينِ الَّذِي أُو
تِيَ أَحْلَى شَمَائِلٍ وَخِصَالِ
75. Persevering, trials only augmented their perseverance
Torrents have overwhelmed them with calamities
٧٥. هُوَ شَعْبٌ حُرُّ السَّجَايَا سَخِيٌّ
وَأَبِيٌّ عَنْ عِزَّةٍ لاَ اخْتِيَالِ
76. Steadfast, trials only augmented their steadfastness
Torrents have overwhelmed them with calamities
٧٦. دَائِبٌ لَمْ تَزِدْهُ إِلاَّ ثَبَاتاً
غَمَرَاتٌ رَمَتْهُ بِالأهْوَالِ
77. Patient, they have endured time until
They turned its back to prosperity
٧٧. بَاسِلٌ لَمْ تَزِدْهُ إِلاَّ ثَبَاتاً
غَمَرَاتٌ رَمَتْهُ بِالأهْوَالِ
78. May Farouk live for Arabism, tending
To it, and tending to him his Sublime Lord
٧٨. صَابِرٌ طَاوَلَ الزَّمَانَ إِلَى أَنْ
رَدَّ إِدْبَارَهُ إِلَى إِقْبَالِ
79. And may his purpose be delivered to every
Ally king and loyal ally
٧٩. عَاشَ فَارُوقُ لِلعُرُوبَةِ يَرْعَا
هَا وَيَرْعَاهُ رَبُّهُ المُتَعَالِي
80. And you have been rewarded with goodness from me, O you
Who have honored me beyond my hopes
٨٠. وَلُيُبْلَّغْ مُنَاهُ كُلُّ مَلِيكٍ
وَرَئِيسِ مُحَالِفٍ وَمُوَالِي
81. May God bless you and water
Your saplings, every smiling downpour
٨١. وَجُزِيتمْ بِالخَيْرِ عَنِّيَ يَا مَنْ
أَكْرَمُونِي بِمَا عَدَا آمَالِي
٨٢. بَارَكَ اللهُ فِيكُمُ وَسَقَى
أَغْرَاسَكُمْ كُلُّ ضَاحِكٍ هَطَّالِ
