And she would have been comforted by the sleep

4. A star whose light shone from its height
And illuminated the horizons of time

5. Its pearls reject colors while in
That ramification lies unmatched strength

6. And genius can separate in various forms
The manifestations of its kindled inspiration

7. A wonder - their source is one
Yet they differ in agreement at the spring

8. And Egypt grieves for a loss, its affliction
Is an irreparable affliction if counted

9. Fate befell him, and a matchless scholar fell
And an incomparable wise man

10. And a composer who created nothing but the exquisite
And an eloquent speaker who said nothing but the best

11. With his firm management he led what he led
With moderation and exerted overwhelming effort

12. Matters show their essence to his insight
And every complexity unravels before him

13. Not to mention his virtuous traits and justice
He had a share of each, the share of the most honorable and glorious

14. The manners of a forbearing, calm, decisive
Lenient, straight-guided man with a lofty purpose

15. His example guides every cultured person
The world was civilized with him, so none are guided

16. And every seeker of help attains from him
A lot, if asked "is there anyone who helps?"

17. He meets you with cheerful tidings while you
Are in awe of him, like a frightened prey

18. None could silence him, nor rein in his ardency
In the fervor of lively debate

19. He brought benefit to industry and agriculture
Extending hand after hand for their reform

20. And oversaw the pacts of economics, so they flourished
And fulfilled their manifold multiplying aims

21. Egypt's treasures were under his construction
And his coffers remained untainted by the hand

22. Except for surplus from his dividends
No urgency for tomorrow was calculated

23. If not for his integrity, his most precious treasure
The provider of his people would not have died destitute

24. Have mercy on the settled soul despite his will
And determination in his ribs did not subside

25. Egypt's passion - he did not indulge passion from it
So if it called, he readily responded and did not hesitate

26. It pained its loyal one that he would sacrifice himself
Out of love, and it had no ransom for the sacrificed

27. He passed too soon, and how many glances
On the day he missed the searching one

28. Multitudes escorted him, and among them
Was only the weeping or the sighing

29. And all classes gathered reverently, so never before
Was a scene witnessed with the splendor of that scene

30. O traveler, death came before him
While souls were still infatuated, not weaned

31. The sword of a people, sheathed while he was not
In their time of need of him, sheathed

32. The flame of a brilliant peak, its loftiness stilled
Among the most superb ornaments of the decorated

33. In truth, you slept a tranquil sleep
Will this last long, or is this slumber transient?

34. You pitied yourself or disobeyed, so were relieved
Of the eternal holy war's burdens

35. Whoever thought your trusted retreat was a conspiracy
In which the fate of the martyr is encountered

36. You will live forever in hearts
If this body does not last forever

37. And your son will complete what you began, supported
By God's care, the Exalted, the Supporter

38. O secret of Ahmed, and continuity is legacy
What can match the protection of the most honorable sanctuary?

39. Bolster, over kin and strangers, that you
Yearn for your father's absence since birth

40. Live for the protective pact, and grow into a worthy plant
