في رضى المربوب والرب

1. In contentment of the Lord and Master
Stay happy, O father of medicine

١. فِي رِضَى المَرْبُوبِ وَالرَّبِّ
بِتْ قَرِيراً يَا أبَا الطَّبِّ

2. O leader of the palace from old
And pillar of the age in succession

٢. يَا رَئِيسَ القَصْرِ مِنْ قِدَمٍ
وَأُسَاةِ العَصْرِ فِي العَقْبِ

3. All the land's prosperity focused
In you as a great symbol

٣. جَلَّ رُزْءُ القِطْرِ أَجْمَعِهِ
فِيكَ مِنْ عَلاَّمَةٍ قُطْبِ

4. With resolute, definitive opinion
Decisive in affirmation and negation

٤. مِنْ سَدِيدِ الرَّأْيِ مُبْرَمِهِ
مُحْكَمِ الإِيجَابِ وَالسَّلْبِ

5. Of true glory, its sincerity
When glory is bought with lies

٥. مَنْ صَحِيحِ المجدِ صَادِقِهِ
حِينَ يُشْرَى المَجْدُ بِالكذْبِ

6. Far from worries, busy
In mending the rift with connection

٦. مِنْ بَعِيْدِ الهَمِّ مُشْتَغِلٍ
في انْصِدَاعِ الشَّمْلِ بِالرَّأْبِ

7. Neither hesitant nor confused
Between the pull of thought and determination

٧. لَيْسَ بِالْوَقَّافِ مُخْتَبِلاً
بَيْنَ دَفْتِ الفِكْرِ وَالجَذْبِ

8. He protected the rights of the country with
What knowledge contains of resolution

٨. ذَبَّ عَنْ حَقِّ البِلاَدِ بِمَا
في حُدُودِ العِلْمِ مِنْ ذَبِّ

9. When he saw it and the people declined
They did not stop at the start of the path

٩. إذْ رَآهَا وَالشُّعُوبُ شَأَتْ
لَمْ تَزَلْ فِي أَوَّلِ الدَّرْب

10. And their contentment is peace, most similar
To what was in its heels with war

١٠. ورِضَاهَا السِّلْمُ اَشْبَهُ مَا
كَانَ فِي عُقْبَاهُ بِالحَرْبِ

11. So seriously he strove to return
What was lost of its affairs in play

١١. فَبِجِدٍّ هَبَّ يَرْجِعُ مِنْ
شَأْنِهَا مَا ضَاعَ بِاللَّعْبِ

12. And with what he spent in its victory
He counts among its brave heroes

١٢. وبِمَا أبْلَى لِنُصْرَتِها
عُدَّ فِي أَبْطَالِهَا الغُلْبِ

13. Traveling in God's cause
The intense veils parted for him

١٣. فِي سَبِيلِ اللهِ مُرْتَحِلٌ
شَقَّ عَنْهُ مُظْلِمَ الحُجْبِ

14. His life and money were sacrificed
In devotion serving the people

١٤. عُمْرُهُ وَالمَالُ قَدْ بُذِلاَ
قُرْبَةً فِ خِدْمَةِ الشَّعْبِ

15. Egypt, when it lost him
Was intense in its anguish

١٥. إِنَّ مِصْراً إذْ نَعَوْهُ لَهَا
وَجَمَتْ مِنْ شِدَّةِ الخَطْبِ

16. And those who missed him made clear
His value over the pouring of sunset

١٦. وَأَجَلَّ ألْفَاقِدُوهُ بِهَا
قَدْرَهُ عَنْ سَاكِبِ الغَرْبِ

17. Can the tears of the eye avail
In the Highest, for the falling stars?

١٧. هَلْ دُمُوعُ العَيْنِ مُغْنِيَةٌ
في العُلَى مِنْ هَابِطِ الشُّهْبِ

18. His right is remembrance that immortalizes him
With good words, not crying

١٨. حَقُّهُ الذِّكْرَى تُخَلِّدُهُ
بِجَمِيلِ القَوْلِ لاَ النَّحْبِ

19. And meanings that can keep
The face of the living when crying ceases

١٩. وَمَعَانٍ يَسْتَدِيمُ بِهَا
وَجْهُ حَيٍّ مُنْقَضِي النَّحْبِ

20. From the highest, noble origin, he smiled
Upon this family and friends

٢٠. مِنْ عَلٍ أشْرِفْ وَبَشَّ إلى
هَؤُلاَءِ الآلَ وَالصَّحْبِ

21. Is one without children made wealthy
By them, who has children without merit?

٢١. هَلْ بِلاَ وُلْدٍ يَعِزُّ بِهِمْ
مَنْ لَهُ وُلْدٌ بِلاَ حَسْبِ

22. Who raises the exceptional from
These elite choice ones?

٢٢. مَنْ يُرَبِّي كَالأَفَاضِلِ مِنْ
هَؤُلاَءِ الصَّفْوَةِ النُّجْبِ

23. He adopted them, so he has blessings
And successive epochs, epoch by epoch

٢٣. تَتَبَنَّاهُمْ لَهُ نِعَمٌ
وَاصِلاَتُ الحُقْبِ بِالْحُقْبِ

24. Drops of dew from his concerns
Fruitful like the dew of rainclouds

٢٤. قَطَرَاتٌ مِنْ نَدَى هِمَهمٍ
مُثْمِرَاتٌ كَنَدَى السُّحْبِ

25. Have you seen righteousness gathering them
Side by side here together?

٢٥. أرَأيْتَ البِرَّ يَجْمَعُهُمْ
هَهُنَا جَنْباً إلى جَنْبِ

26. Jesus in his affection was
One in distance and nearness

٢٦. كَانَ عِيسَى فِي مَوَدَّتِهِ
وَاحِداً في البُعْدِ والْقُرْبِ

27. His resolve of flexible character
His nature of solid essence

٢٧. عَزْمُهُ مِنْ عُنْصُرٍ مَرِنٍ
خُلْقُهُ مِنْ جَوْهَرٍ صُلْبِ

28. His words in the soul of the listener
Are good like the fresh sweet drink

٢٨. قَوْلُهُ فِي نَفْسِ سَامِعِهِ
طَيِّبٌ كَالمَورِدِ العَذْبِ

29. His opinion in every dilemma
Incisive like the sharp sword

٢٩. رَأْيُهُ فِي كُلِّ مُعْضِلَةٍ
قَاطِعٌ كَالصَّارِمِ العَضْبِ

30. His generosity healing, he restored
The glory of lofty Egypt

٣٠. جُودُهُ شَافٍ أَعَادَ بِهِ
مَجْدَ مِصْرٍ عَاليَ الكَعْبِ

31. He came with an innovation that usurped
Every praise, whatever the usurpation

٣١. جَاءَ فِيهِ بِدْعَةً غَصَبَتْ
كُلَّ حَمْدٍ أَيَّمَا غَصْبِ

32. And meanings can have
Like melodies, an awe that captivates

٣٢. والمَعَانِي قَدْ تَكُونُ لَها
كَالْغَوَانِي رَوْعَةٌ تَسْبِي

33. There was no one in the East like him
Of that class and upbringing

٣٣. لَمْ يَكُنْ فِي الشَّرْقِ وَاحَرَبَا
كَرَمٌ مِنْ ذَلِكَ الضَّرْبِ

34. So by my praise today we have
A stance on the Western side

٣٤. فَبِحَمْدِي الْيَوْمَ صَارَ لَنَا
مَوْقِفٌ فِي جَانِبِ الغَرْبِ

35. How excellent the news of his gift
Say and repeat, O you who declare

٣٥. حَبَّذَا أنْبَاءُ مِنْحَتِهِ
قُلْ وَكَرِّرْ أَيُّهَا المُنْبِي

36. May one increase our fertile regions
Of abundant yields and livelihoods

٣٦. عَلَّ فِي مُثْرِي مَوَاطِنِنَا
مَنْ ضِخَامِ الرَّيْعِ وَالْكَسْبِ

37. One whom when the voice of loyalty calls
Says, "I feel a responsiveness"

٣٧. مَنْ إذَا دَاعِي الوَلاَءِ دَعَا
قَالَ إحْسَاسٌ لَهُ لَبِّ

38. Can abundance benefit a land
When people's hearts are arid?

٣٨. هَلْ يُفِيدُ الخِصْبُ فِي بَلَدٍ
وَقُلُوبُ القَوْمِ فِي جَدْبِ

39. Are the wealthy made proud by it
When their treasure's in the mind, not soil?

٣٩. أَلثَّرَاءُ المُسْتَعَزُّ بِهِ
كَنْزُهُ فِي العَقْلِ لاَ التُّرْبِ

40. Egypt, O professor, remembers what
You brought of wonder and awe

٤٠. مِصْرُ يَا أُسْتَاذُ تَذْكُرُ مَا
جِئْتَ بِالإِعْجَابِ وَالْعُجْبِ

41. Whenever time passed with it
It was in venerating you a nurturer

٤١. كُلَّمَا مَرَّ الزَّمَانُ بِهِ
فَهْوَ فِي إجْلاَلِها مُربِي

42. Jesus poured his craft
To ransom it the price of melting

٤٢. كَانَ عِيسَى صَبَّ حِرْفَتِهِ
يَفْتَدِيهَا فِدْيَةَ الصَّبِّ

43. And I hope he will restore for it
Its status in the state of Arabs

٤٣. وَُرَجِّي أنْ يُعِيدَ لَهَا
شَأْنَهَا فِي دَوْلَةِ العُرْبِ

44. So he embarked upon books, producing from them
Verses of education without books

٤٤. فَانْبَرَى لِلْكُتْبِ يُخْرِجُهَا
آيَ تَعْلِيمٍ بِلاَ كُتْبِ

45. And benefited people to the extent
Of what an able adviser can do

٤٥. وَأَفَادَ النَّاسَ غَايَةَ مَا
فِي اقْتِدَارِ النَّاصِحِ الطَّبِّ

46. He is the comforting for the ill
And the consoling for a brother in distress

٤٦. فَهُوَ الآسِي لِذِي سَقَمٍ
وَالمُوَاسِي لِأَخِي الكَرْبِ

47. Under the manners of the wise he folded
The generous qualities of the noble man

٤٧. تَحْتَ آدَابِ الحَكِيمِ طَوَى
مَكْرُمَاتِ السَّيِّدِ النَّدْبِ

48. He saw in all affairs how
The first may rise, he of effort

٤٨. كَانَ فِي كُلِّ الشُّؤُونِ يَرَى
كَيْفَ يَرْقَى الْأَوَْ ذُو الدَّأْبِ

49. He succeeded early, one whose sight
Precedes action in the unseen

٤٩. فَازَ قِدْماً مَنْ لَهُ نَظَرٌ
قَبْلَ بَدْءِ الأَمْرِ فِي الغِبِّ

50. So when his conduct progressed
He found no hardship in hardship

٥٠. فَإذَا ما سَارَ سِيرَتَهُ
لَمْ يَجِدْ صَعْباً مِنَ الصّعْبِ

51. He gave life only the measure
That a bosom friend would give

٥١. كَانَ لاَ يُعْطِي الحَيَاةَ سِوَى
قَدْرِ مَا يُعْطِي أَخُو اللُّبِّ

52. A maturity not tempted
By the world's glamor, nor foolish

٥٢. نِضْوُ خُبْرٍ لَيْسَ يَفْتِنُهُ
زُخْرُفُ الدُّنْيَا وَلاَ يُصْبِي

53. Finding the beautiful without disdain
And seeing the ugly without blame

٥٣. يَجِدُ الحُسْنَى بِلاَ جَذَلٍ
وَيَرَى السُّوأَى بِلاَ عَتْبِ

54. In him the love of people was most sincere
His pure nature, free of deceit

٥٤. فِيهِ حُبُّ النَّاسِ أَخْلَصَهُ
طَبْعُهُ الصَّافِي مَنَ الخِبِ

55. He gave them the best contained
In the verse of love

٥٥. جَاءَهُمْ مِنْهُ بِأبْدَعَ مَا
ضُمِّنَتْهُ آيَةُ الحُبِّ

56. The best that intelligence can bring
Is what comes from the heart

٥٦. خَيْرُ مَا يَأْتِي الذَكَاءُ بِهِ
هُوَ مَا يَأْتِي مِنَ الْقَلْبِ

57. That is some of the truth in him, and if
My time continued, it would not be enough

٥٧. ذَاكَ بَعْضُ الحَقِّ فِيهِ وَلَوْ
طَالَ وَقْتِي لَمْ يَكُنْ حَسْبِي

58. So let the gardens be his pasture
Abiding in them, at peace

٥٨. فَلْتَكُ الجَنَّاتُ مَرْتَعَهُ
خَالِداً فِيهَا عَلَى الرُّحْبِ
