1. To our esteemed master, the eminent scholar
My greetings, O beloved of the Friend (God)
١. إِلَى أُسْتَاذِنَا الْعَلَمِ الجَلِيلِ
تَوَلَّيْ يَا تَحِيَّاتِ الخَلِيلِ
2. Scented as though with a sweet breeze
From gardens watered by the Nile's honey
٢. مُذَكَّاةً وَحَسْبُكِ نَفْحُ طِيبٍ
مِنَ الجَنَّاتِ تُسْقى شُهدَ نِيلِ
3. The effects of benevolence do not fade away
With a structure built by the benevolent
٣. فَمَا أَثَرُ الجَمِيلِ عَلَى التَّنَائِي
بِنَاءٍ عَنْ مُقْرٍّ بِالْجَمِيلِ
4. Egypt's provinces are filled with witnesses
Who attest to the imam's integrity
٤. جَوَانِبُ مِصْرَ يَمْلَؤُهَا شُهُودٌ
يُزَكُّونَ الإِمَامَ مِنَ الْعُدُولِ
5. Among those cultivated by his hands
Great in morals and minds
٥. مِنَ المُتَثَقِّفينَ عَلَى يَدَيْهِ
كِبَاراً بِالْخَلاَئِقِ وَالْعُقُولِ
6. They established in cities and hamlets
The strongest proof of his kindness
٦. أَقَامُوا فِي الْحَوَاضِرِ وَالْبَوَادِي
عَلَى إِحْسَانِهِ أَقْوَى دَلِيلِ
7. Sons of glories, branches
With whom you built men of high pedigree
٧. أَبَنَّاءَ المَفَاخِرِ مِنْ فُرُوعٍٍ
بنَيْتَ بِهَا الرِّجَالَ مِنْ أُصُولِ
8. If I do not benefit from your words when heard
Then nothing of what is said escapes me
٨. إِذَا أَنَا لَمْ أُفِدْ بِالسَّمْعِ قَوْلاً
فَمَا إِنْ فَاتَنِي أَثَرُ المَقُولِ
9. If you allow, make me one of your followers
For count me not as paltry among them
٩. وَإِنْ تَسْمَحْ فَتَعْدُدْنِي مُرِيداً
فَمَا عَدِّي مُرِيداً بِالْقَلِيلِ
10. Is there anyone in the Arab world who has not
Obtained of that immense bounty?
١٠. وَهَلْ فِي الْعَالِمِ العَرَبِيِّ مَنْ لَمْ
يُصِبْ مِنْ ذَلِكَ الفَضْلِ الْجَزِيلِ
11. I saw you as an exemplar among our masters
Too mighty to be matched to any peer
١١. رَأَيْتُكَ فِي جَهَابِذِنَا مِثَالاً
عَزِيزاً أَنْ يُقَاسَ إِلَى مَيِثل
12.
When you give lessons, you pour a spring
١٢. إِذَا أَلْقَى الدَّرُوسَ أَفَاضَ نَبْعاً
قَرِيبَ الوِرْدِ عَذْبَ السَّلسَبِيلِ
13. Sweet, pure water easily drawn
And when you share your thoughts, they turn
١٣. وَإِنْ أَجْرَى يَرَاعَتَهُ أَدَارَتْ
عَلَى الأَذْهَانِ صِرْفاً مِنْ شَمُولِ
14. Upon minds with all-encompassing effect
You have the inspiration that comes like the stars
١٤. لَهُ الْوَحْيُ الذِي كَالنَّوْءِ يَأْتِي
بِبَرْقٍ سَاطِعٍ وَنَدى هطُولِ
15. With shining lightning and pouring rain
Therein for the thirsty, abundant drink
١٥. فَفِي الإغْدَاقِ لِلَّظمْآنِ رِيٌّ
وَفِي الإشْرَاقِ هَدْيٌ لِلضَّلولِ
16. And for the lost, a guide to the path
May God protect this university, it has brought us
١٦. رَعَاهَا اللهُ جَامِعَةً أَدَالتْ
لَنَا عِزّاً مِنَ العَهْدِ المُذِيلِ
17. Glory from the era now past
With righteousness unmatched throughout history
١٧. بِبِرٍ لَمْ يُتِحْهُ الدَّهْرُ قَبْلاً
لِقَوْمٍ فِي حِمَاهُمْ مِنْ نَزِيلِ
18. For a people sheltered in its care
It cured diseases of bodies and increased
١٨. شَفَتْ عِلَلاً بِأَبْدَان وَزَادَتْ
فَرَدَّتْ صِحَّة الخُلْقِ العَلِيلِ
19. Restoring health to the infirm
It fed hungry minds with knowledge
١٩. وَغَذَتْ بِالمَعارِفِ طَالبِيهَا
فَأَخْرَجَتِ العَلِيمَ مِنَ الْجَهُولِ
20. Bringing the learned out from ignorance
And it grew virtues in its children
٢٠. وَأَنْبَتَت الْفَضَائِلَ فِي بَنِيهَا
نَبَاتَ المُخْصِبَاتِ مِنَ الحُقُول
21. Like crops on cultivated land
٢١. إِذَا رُمْنَا الوَفَاءَ بِمَا عَلَيْنَا
لَهَا أَوْ بَعْضَهُ هَلْ مِنْ سَبِيلِ
22. If we attempt to repay what we owe
Is there a way for us to do so?
٢٢. أَحِنُّ إِلَى مَعَالِمِهَا وَأَهْوَى
خِلاَلَ عَمِيدِهَا الشَّهْمِ النَّبِيلِ
23. I yearn for its hallmarks and desire
The noble traits of its steadfast leader
٢٣. فَتّى زِينَتْ شَمَائِلُهُ بِنُبْلٍ
يُنَهْنِهُ عِزَّةَ الْجَاهِ الأَثِيلِ
24.
A gallant knight whose qualities are adorned
٢٤. وَأكْبِرُ حَوْلَهُ فِي كُلِّ فنٍ
لَفِيفاً مِنْ أَسَاتِذَةٍ فُحُولِ
25. With nobility, jewel of the honored clan
The greatest surround him in every discipline
٢٥. شُكُولٌ فِي سَجايَاهُمْ كِمَالاً
وَلَيْسوا في المَعَارِفِ بِالشُّكُولِ
26. An elite circle of eminent professors
Perfect in their natures, consummate
٢٦. إِذَا مَا أَكْرَمُوا جَبْراً أَخَاهُمْ
فَمِنْ حَقِّ الْفَضِيلِ عَلَى الْفَضِيلِ
27. And in knowledge, never idle
When honoring a brother's merit
٢٧. وَأَخْلَقُ عَالِمٍ بالمَجْدِ حَبْرٌ
أَتَم العِلْمَ بِالْخُلْقِ الجَمِيلِ
28. As befits the virtuous toward the virtuous
A sage most mannered with glory is a sea
٢٨. نَقِيُّ الجَيْبِ عَاشَ بِلاَ عَذِيرٍ
عَلَى هَنَة وَعَاشَ بَلا عَذُولِ
29. Of knowledge and fine morals combined
Of pure means, he lives without excuse
٢٩. فَخَاراً صَاحبَ الْيُوبِيلِ هَذا
ثَوَابُ عَنَائِكَ الجَمِّ الطَّوِيلِ
30. At ease, and acts without caprice
٣٠. تَوَافَدَتِ الْوُفُودُ إِلَيْكَ تُثْنِي
عَلَيْكَ مِنَ الحُزُونَةِ وَالسُّهولِ
31. So congratulations, man of this jubilee
Reward for your immense efforts
٣١. فَأَهْدَتْ مِنْ رِيَاضِ الشُّكْرِ وَرداً
زَكِيَّ العَرْفِ مَأْمُونَ الذُّبُولِ
32. Delegations converged upon you to give
Praise, from settled lands and nomads
٣٢. وَحَمَّلتُ الأَلُوكَةً تَهْنِئَاتِي
فَهَلْ أَرْجُو لَهَا حُسْنَ القُبُولِ
33.
They brought, from the meadows of gratitude, a rose
٣٣. بَعَثْتُ بِهَا إِلَيْكَ رَسُولُ صِدْقٍ
وَحَسْبِي مِنْكَ إِلْطَافُ الرَّسُولِ
