قدر وهل يشكى القدر

1. Fate, yet who can complain of fate?
What is wisdom but to be patient?

١. قَدَرٌ وَهَلْ يُشْكَى القَدَرْ
مَا الْحَزْمُ إِلاَّ مَنْ صَبَرْ

2. He who sustained you will send
A successor better than before.

٢. إِنَّ الَّذي أَبْقَاكَ أَخْلَفَ
مِنْهُ مِفْضَالاً أَغَرّْ

3. A noble root - when it bore fruit
The gardens bore them without number.

٣. أَصْلٌ زَهَا بِكَ حِينَ
أَثْمَرَ وَالرِّيَاضُ مِنَ الثَّمرْ

4. Named with a name encompassing
The beauty of heavens and of flowers.

٤. سَمَّاك بِاسْمٍ جَامِعٍ
لِحِلى الجَنَى وحِلَى الزَّهَرْ

5. Exalt him with a mount well-reined,
Drawing near the meadows, lofty of view.

٥. أَجْلِلْ بِه مِنْ رَاحِلٍ
دَانِي النَّدَى سَامِي النَّظرْ

6. His was the station, if stationed
For glory or for danger.

٦. كَان المَقامُ مَقَامَهُ إِنْ
كَانَ مَجْدٌ أَوْ خَطَرْ

7. You are charged that you emulate him,
Enduring, of lasting renown.

٧. أَنتَ المُنُوطُ بَأَنْ تصُو
نَ عُلاهُ خَالِدَةَ الأَثَرْ

8. Excellent the remainder of one whose constancy
And providence were excellent.

٨. نِعْمَ البَقِيِّةُ لاِسْتِدَا
مَتِها ونِعْمَ المُدَخَّرْ

9. Bountiful, of purified character,
Praised in conduct, of renowned journey.

٩. جَمَّ السَّمَاحِ مُطَهَّرُ
الأَخلاقِ مَمْدُوحُ السِّيَرْ

10. Gardens have secluded you from
The gossiping of others.

١٠. أَرِيَاضُ صانَتْكَ العِنَا
يَةُ مِنْ تَصَارِيفِ الغِيَرْ

11. Your virtues known in desert
And cities proclaimed you.

١١. رَاعَتْ مَنَاقِبُكَ الَّتِي
فِي الْبَدْوِ ذَاعَتْ وَالْحَضَرْ

12. Those virtues among virtues
Are like unique pearls among pearls.

١٢. تِلْكَ الفَضَائِلُ فِي الفَضَائِلِ
كَالفَرائِدِ فِي الدُّرَرْ

13. Brilliant, donned by nights
Evident as treasures.

١٣. بِيضٌ تَقَلَّدُهَا اللَّيَالي
وَاضِحَاتٌ كَالغُرَرْ

14. Recited upon days as verses
And collected in surahs.

١٤. تُتْلى عَلى الأَيَّامِ آ
يَاتٌ وَتُجْمَعُ في سُوَرْ
