1. The awe of memory has reached its extent
With the grandeur of this great occasion
١. بَلَغَتْ مَدَاهَا رَوْعَةُ الذِّكْرَى
بِجَلاَلِ هَذِي الْحَفْلَةِ الكُبْرَى
2. Look at these crowds, so numerous
The Nile valley is too narrow to contain them
٢. أُنْظُرْ إِلى هَذِي الْوُفُودِ وَقَدْ
ضَاقَ النَّدِيُّ بِهَا تَجِدْ مِصْرَا
3. In hearts and faces there is nothing but
A melting heart and thankful gaze
٣. مَا فِي الصُّدورِ وَفِي الْوُجُوهِ سِوَى
قَلْبٍ يَذُوبُ وَمُقْلَةٍ شَكْرَى
4. The sadness of a devoted mother
Weeping for her dutiful son
٤. رُزْءُ الْكِنَانَةِ رُزْءُ وَالِدَةٍ
مَبْرُورَةٍ تبْكِي ابْنَهَا الْبِرَّا
5. She weeps for the most cherished of sons
When counting her dear sons
٥. تَبْكِي المُرَجَّبَ فِي الْبَنِينَ إِذَا
عَدَّتْ بَنِينَ أَعِزَّةً كُثْرَا
6. She weeps for one so loyal, who exhausted his strength
And spent his life in loyalty to her
٦. تَبْكِي سَرِيّاً فِي الْوَفَاءِ لَهَا
أَفْنَى الْقوَى وَاسْتنْفَدَ الْعُمْرا
7. The passage of time cannot console
Her grieving, anguished heart
٧. لَيْسَ التَّقادُمُ فِي فَجِيعَتِها
مِمَّا يُقِرُّ ضُلُوعَهَا الْحَرَّى
8. Alas, it cannot comfort her, though she found
Glory by following in his footsteps
٨. هَيْهَاتَ تَسْلُوهُ ومَا الْتَفتَتْ
أَلْفَتْ لَهُ فِي مَجْدِهَا إِثْرَا
9. A hero who defied fate
And changed its course
٩. بطَلٌ تَعَرَّضَ وَالْقضَاءُ لَهُ
مَجْرىً فحَوَّلَ ذِلك المجْرَى
10. With wisdom and sheathed swords
He ensured success and seized victory
١٠. بِالرَّأْيِ وَالأَسْيَافُ مُغْمَدَةٌ
ضَمِنَ النَّجاحَ وَأَحْرَزَ النَّصرَا
11. He removed an epoch, rotten through
And renewed a glorious age
١١. فَازَالَ عَصْراً سامَ أُمَّتهُ
خَسفاً وجدَّدَ لِلْعُلى عَصْرَا
12. In events, the further back they recede
The more gains accrue to the studious
١٢. كَمْ فِي الْوَقَائِعِ كُلَّمَا بعُدَتْ
غُنْمٌ يَفوزُ بِهِ مَنِ اسْتَقْرَى
13. Days of abundance, an abundance bursting
With gems and pearls of treasure
١٣. أَيَّامُ ثرْوَتَ ثَرْوَةٌ نَفَسَتْ
بِكُنوزِهَا الْيَاقُوتَ وَالدُّرَّا
14. So perceive the great lessons in them
Do not read its pages heedlessly
١٤. فَتَبَيَّنوا الْعِبَرَ الْكِبَارَ بِهَا
لاَ تقْرَؤُنَّ كِتَابَهَا عَبْرَا
15. Its pages unfold novelties
Unseen by any eye or reconnoitered
١٥. تُؤْتِي صَحَائِفُهَا طَرَائِفَهَا
مَا الطرْفُ مَرَّ بِهَا وَمَا كَرَّا
16. It is the way of great deeds that their heir
Builds on the ruins of what came before
١٦. شَأْنُ الْعَظَائِمِ أَنَّ آتِيَهَا
يَبْنِي عَلَى آثارِ مَا مَرَّا
17. Its pursuer is guided by it
To paths leading to the like of them
١٧. يهْدِي تَتَبُّعهَا الْحَفِيَّ بِها
سُبُلاً إِلى أَمْثَالِهَا تَتْرَى
18. O you whose life we celebrate today
Increasing our knowledge of our time
١٨. يَا مَن نُعِيدُ الْيَوْمَ سِيرَتَهُ
فَتَزِيدُنَا بِزمَانِنَا خُبْرَا
19. You were a treasure for the nation
Leaving treasures in its history
١٩. قَدْ كُنْتَ ذُخْراً لِلْبِلاَدِ وَقَدْ
خَلَّفْتَ فِي تَارِيخِهَا ذُخْرا
20. That life you gallantly sacrificed
Gaining glory and integrity from it
٢٠. تِلْكَ الْحَياةُ وَهَبْتَهَا كَرَماً
وَنَزَاهَةً فَكَسَبْتَهَا فَخْرا
21. You spent it in your youth - what principles!
So wear everlasting, verdant youth
٢١. أَبْلَيْتَهَا وَشَبَابُها خَلَقٌ
فَأَلْبَسْ شبَاباً خَالِداً نَضْرَا
22. A reward you won though you never
Sought reward for a single day
٢٢. أَجْرٌ ظَفِرْتَ بِهِ وَإِنْ تَكُ لمْ
تَتوخَّ يَوْماً ذلِك الأجْرَا
23. Thus does Egypt reward her liberator
And so does her people give thanks
٢٣. وَكذاكَ تَجْزِي مِصْرُ فَادِيَهَا
وَكَذَاكَ يُحْسِنُ شَعْبُهَا الشكْرَا
24. A people roused by its darkness
Oppression overwhelms the free
٢٤. شعبٌ أَثَارَتْهُ ظلاَمتُهُ
إِنَّ المَظَالِمَ تُرْهِقُ الحُرَّا
25. Its demise was inevitable
So it could live, or else bear doom
٢٥. مَا كَانَ بُدٌّ مِنْ تهَالُكِهِ
لِيَعِيشَ أَوْ مِنَ هُلْكِهِ صَبْرَا
26. You rose to air its cause
Bearing the weight of its affair
٢٦. فَنهَضْتَ تَنْفَحُ عنْ قَضِيَّتهِ
مَتحَمِّلاً مِنْ شَأْنِهَا وِقْرَا
27. And when the earth was vacant
Boarded that hazardous vessel
٢٧. وَرَكِبْتَ حِينَ الأَرْضُ وَاجفةٌ
بِالدَّسْتِ ذاكَ المَرْكَبَ الْوَعْرَا
28. Passing from peril to peril
Defying threats from left and right
٢٨. تَجْتَازُ مِن خَطَرٍ إِلى خَطَرٍ
وَتَذُودُ عَنْ يُمْنَى وَعَنْ يُسْرَى
29. With the cunning of the well-equipped and under-equipped
Be they timid or emboldened
٢٩. بِدَهَاءِ ذِي عَدَدٍ وَذِي عُدَد
مِنْ نَفْسِهِ إِنْ كَرَّ أَوْ فَرَّا
30. Joining flexibility and firmness in
Character, honesty and guile
٣٠. جَمَعَ المُرُونَةَ وَالصَّلاَبةَ فِي
أَخْلاَقِهِ وَالصِّدْقُ وَالمَكْرَا
31. Guided by intimate knowledge
Of mankind in its thinking
٣١. وَهَدَتْهُ مَعْرِفة مُحَقَّقةٌ
بِالنَّاسِ فِي تَصْرِيفِهِ الفِكْرَا
32. Aided by manners that make
Forbidden seem like wine
٣٢. وأَعَانهُ أَدَبٌ يُرَقْرِقُهُ
فَكأَنهُ يَسْقِي النُّهى خَمْرَا
33. Genius shone from you, piercing
The gloom that hides secrets
٣٣. وَجَلاَ النُّبوغُ لهُ الْخَفَاءَ فَلَمْ
تكتمه أَسداف الدّجى سرّا
34. Sincerity drew you to sweet life
And bitter, mingled as one
٣٤. وسما الخلوص بِهِ فأورده
سيّين حلو العيش وَالمرّا
35. Striding to your goals indefatigably
Either reaching them or being excused
٣٥. يمشي إِلى غاياته قمناً
ببلوغها أَوْ يَبْلُغُ العُذْرَا
36. Seeing obstacles, never relenting
Until hardship becomes ease
٣٦. وَيَرى الصَّعاب فَمَا يزالُ بِهَا
حَتَّى يُبَدِّل عُسرَهَا يُسْرَا
37. The utmost a disputant can achieve
Is to turn away, gaining nothing
٣٧. جُهْدُ المُسَاجِلِ فِي الخُصُومَةِ أَن
يَرْتَدَّ عَنْهُ وَلمْ يُفِدْ أَمْرَا
38. From a smooth, firmly rooted boulder
That neither tide nor ebb can shake
٣٨. عنْ صَخْرَةٍ مَلْسَاءَ راسِخةٍ
لاَ مَدَّ يُوهِنُها وَلاَ جَزْرا
39. Honor! Father of the constitution
Egypt never raised the status of her champion higher
٣٩. شَرفاً أَبَا الدُّسْتُورِ مَا رَفعَتْ
مِصْرٌ لِرَافعِ قَدْرِهَا قدْرَا
40. As ruler at the height of her glory
He held the reins taut and reached the zenith
٤٠. أَلْمُلْكُ فِي إِبّانِ عِزَّتِهِ
شقَّ العنَانَ وطَاولَ الزُّهْرَا
41. While the people strongly resisted
His friendship, refusing wanton bloodshed
٤١. وَالشَّعبُ مَنَّاعٌ لِندْوَتِهِ
يأْبَى ضَيَاعَ دِمَائِهِ هَدْرا
42. Do not fret that his unity
Was fractured, it was best to mend it
٤٢. لاَ يكرُثَنَّك أَنَّ وَحْدَتَهُ
صُدِعَتْ وَكَانَ بِرَأْبِهَا أَحْرَى
43. I have witnessed goodness none can oppose
Until goodness dispels evil altogether
٤٣. أَشَهِدْتُ خَيْراً لاَ يُنَاهِضُهُ
شَرٌّ إِلى أَنْ يَدْحَرَ الشَّرَّا
44. Reason, the mighty lion, prevails though
Discord impedes it for ages
٤٤. يتَغَلَّبُ الرَّأْيُ الأَسَدُّ وَإِنْ
حال التَّناحُرُ دُونَهُ دَهْرَا
45. You could never fear what the craven dreads
When the coward is routed by dread
٤٥. حاشَاكَ أَنْ تَخْشَى وَلَمْ تَكُ إِنْ
خاسَ الشُّجاعُ بِخَائِسٍ ذُعْرَا
46. You are the example before our eyes
Did you live nobly or as a full moon?
٤٦. هذا مِثالُكَ نُصْبَ أَعْيُنِنا
أَجَلاَ مُحَيّاً أَمْ جلاَ بَدْرا
47. Eyes drown as they gaze at you
And through their tears you seem a bearer of good news
٤٧. تِثبُ اللِّحاظُ إِليْهِ مِنْ غرَقٍ
بِدمُوعِهَا فترَى بِهِ بِشْرَا
48. How excellent to teach us always
To broaden, not narrow, our breasts
٤٨. يَا حُسْنَهُ أَوْفى يُعَلِّمُنا
أَلاَّ نَضِيقَ بِحَادِثٍ صَدْرَا
49. Thus were you throughout life: when days
Glowered at you hostile and false
٤٩. وَكَذَاكَ كُنْتَ مَدَى الْحَيَاةِ إِذَا
عَبَسَتْ بِكَ الأَيَّامُ مُفْتَرَّا
50. Trusting in your victory, never going
Too far, and he who is patient wins
٥٠. ثِقَةً بِفَوْزِكَ مَا غَلَوْتَ بِهَا
وَيَفُوزُ مَنْ لاَ يَعْدَمُ الصَّبرَا
51. Who errs at first then keeps his
Faith has not erred in the end
٥١. مَنْ أَخْطَأَ الأُولَى فَظلَّ عَلى
إِيمَانِهِ لمْ يُخْطِيءِ الأُخْرَى
