1. The president died, so every march
Became but to announce that death and mourning filled the airports

١. مَاتَ الرَّئِيس فَصَارَ كُلَّ مَسِيرَةٍ
ذَاكَ النَّعيَّ وَطَارَ كُلّ مَطَارِ

2. The stalwart, strongman died, who
Was neither tyrannical nor authoritarian

٢. مَاتَ العِصَامِيُّ العِظَاميُّ الَّذِي
مَا كَانَ بِالْعَاتِي وَلا الْجَبَّارِ

3. The one died, who in passion
Lived as a protector, not as one protected

٣. مَاتَ الذِي مَارَى سِوَاهُ فِي الْهَوَى
يَوْمَ الْحِفَاظِ وَعَاشَ غَيْرِ مُمَارِ

4. Acknowledge his status wherever you wish, for it
Is the inevitable result of that acknowledgment

٤. أَقْرِرْ مَقَامَكَ حَيْثُ شِئْتَ فَإِنَّه
لَنَتِيجَةٌ مِنْ ذَلِكَ الإِقْرَارِ

5. If you exalt him, he will be adorned with stars
And if you belittle him, he will be clothed in dust

٥. فَإِذَا سَمَوْتَ بِهِ تَقَلَّدَ أَنْجُماً
وَإِذَا دَنَوْتَ بِهِ اكْتَسَى بِغُبَارِ

6. If you sing his praises, he will smile at sublimity
And if you disparage him, he will be content in desolation

٦. وَإِذَا غَنِيتَ بِهِ تَفَكَّه بِالْعُلاَ
وَإِذَا افْتَقَرْتَ بِهِ اكْتَفَى بِقَفَارِ

7. The most honourable judgment you pass on yourself
Is yours, if you fulfil your duty justly

٧. وَأَعَزُّ مَا تَقْضِي لِنَفْسِكَ حَاصِلٌ
لَكَ إِنْ تُؤَدِّ الحَقَّ بالمِعْيارِ

8. Obligations are sorrow and the hardship of pursuits
Yet in them lies the sweetness for the elect

٨. أَلْوَاجِبَاتُ أَسًىً وَشَقُّ مَرَائِرٍ
لكِنَّ فِيهَا الشُّهدَ لِلْمُشْتَارِ

9. Unlike the feeble, he takes on responsibilities
As inspired, unlike the idle prattler

٩. غَيْرُ الزَّمُوعِ يَهُبُّ مُضْطَلِعاً بِمَا
تُوحِي وَغَيْرُ الأَضْرَعِ الْثَّرْثَارِ

10. To God is the glory of those who taste His torment,
And the dignity of those whom gravity has worn down

١٠. للَّهِ مَجْدُ الذَّائِقِينَ عَذَابَهَا
وَوَقَارُ مَنْ نَهَكَتْهُ بِالأَوْقَارِ

11. What vessel is as fragile as one who wades into evil
Yet protects the truth while calamities clash

١١. أَيُّ الفَخَارِ فَخَارُ مَنْ قَحَمَ الشَّرَى
فَحَمَى الْحَقِيقَةَ وَالْخُطُوبُ ضَوَارِ

12. The sword of destiny, having struck Muhammad
Attained faithfulness in its keen edge

١٢. سَيْفُ القَضَاءِ وَقَدْ أَصَابَ مُحَمَّداً
نَالَ الْوَفَاءَ بِحَدِّهِ البَتَّارِ

13. Not blindness, no no, but wisdom
Made firm by continuous repetition

١٣. أَعَمَايَةٌ لاَ لاَ وَلِكنْ حِكْمَةٌ
ثَبُتَتْ بِمُتَّصلٍ مِنَ التَّكرَارِ

14. The martyr calls for a thousand like himself
Through whom the cycles of time are completed

١٤. يَدْعُو الشَّهيدُ الأَلْفَ مِنْ أَمْثَالِهِ
وَبِهِمْ يَتِمُّ تَقَلُّبُ الأَطْوَارِ

15. O you who died, may the Bountiful's favor
And the Forgiving's mercy water your graves

١٥. يَا أَيًّها الْقَتْلى سَقَى أَجْدَاثَكُمْ
فَضْلُ المُثِيبِ وَرَحْمَةُ الغَفَّارِ

16. We cry for every fallen hero
With burning sorrow in our hearts

١٦. إِنَّا لَنَبْكِي كُلَّ ثَاوٍ هَامِدٍ
مِنْكُمْ بِأَكْبَادٍ عَلَيْهِ حِرَارِ

17. The throne, God's throne, grows purer
With the blood spilled on it for martyrdom

١٧. أَلْعَرْشُ عَرْشُ الْحَقِّ يَزكُو حَالِياً
بِدَمٍ عَلَيْهِ لِلشَّهادَةِ جَارِي

18. And the land, when watered from the pure
Is adorned and trembles with excitement

١٨. وَالأَرْضُ إِذْ تُسْقَى نَجِيعَ بَرَاءَةٍ
تُزْهَى وَيَأْخُذُهَا اهْتِزَازُ خُمَارِ

19. Like the joy of a bride, the order of her jewelry shines
And her paths are strewn with petals

١٩. زَهْوَ العَرُوسِ غَلاَ نِظَامُ حُلِيِّها
وَتَبَرَّجَتْ طُرُقَاتُهَا بِنِثَارِ

20. Honor yourselves, for what are souls
Spilled in the dust if not by a tyrant spilled

٢٠. أَعْزِزْ بِأَنْفسِكْم فَمَا هِيَ أَنْفسٌ
مَسْفوكَةٌ فِي التّربِ سَفْكَ جُبَارِ

21. In every place of your sacrifice flows
The most blessed and fertile ground for seeds

٢١. فِي كُلِّ مَوْقِعِ مُهْجَةٍ مِنْكُمْ جَرَتْ
أَزْكَى وَأَخْصَبُ مَوِقْعٍ لِبَذَارِ

22. We know their worth, those which
Gave us worth and standing

٢٢. إِنَّا لَنَعْرِفُ قَدْرَهَا وَهْيَ الَّتِي
جَعَلَتْ لَنَا قَدْراً مِنَ الأَقْدَارِ

23. And we forever revere them, remembering they
Shielded our dignity from disgrace

٢٣. وَنُجِلُّهَا أَبَداً بِذِكْرَى أَنَها
صَانَتْ حَقِيقَتنا مِنَ الإِحْقارِ

24. They enhanced the Nile's beauty in our eyes
And the meadow's adornment and the light's splendor

٢٤. زَادَتْ جَمَالَ النيلِ فِي أَبْصَارِنا
وَحُلى النخِيعِ وَبَهْجَةَ النوَّارِ

25. And from their souls into our souls flowed
A sweet fragrance like the wafting of flowers

٢٥. وَسَرَى إِلى الأَرْوَاحِ مِن أَرْوَاحِهَا
عَبَقٌ ذَكا كَتَارُّجِ الأَزْهَارِ

26. And as if with heavenly subtlety
They adorned for us the laden trees

٢٦. وَكَأَنَّها بِلطَافَة عُلْويَّةٍ
زَانَتْ لَنَا مُتَفَيَّأ الأَشْجَارِ
