حييت يا ذات المقام السامي

1. I greet you, O one of sublime station,
With reverence and utmost esteem.

١. حُيِّيتِ يَا ذَاتَ المَقَامِ السَّامِي
بِتَحِيَّةِ الإِكْبَارِ وَالإِعْظَامِ

2. Good fortune and favor have returned
On a day superior to all days.

٢. اليُمْنُ وَالإِقْبَالُ عَادَا فِي زَهَا
يَوْمٍ لَهُ شَرَفٌ عَلَى الأَيَّامِ

3. A feast that renews for the country and its people
Its joys with the renewal of years.

٣. عِيدٌ يُجَدِّدُ لِلْبِلادِ وَأَهْلِهَا
بَهَجَاتِهِ بِتَجَدُّدِ الأَعْوَامِ

4. It has amazed minds with two signs that appeared
In its sparkling serene horizon.

٤. رَاعَ الْعُقُولَ بِآيَتَيْنِ تَرَاءتَا
فِي أُفْقِهِ المُتَهَلِّلِ البَسَّامِ

5. The sun in its loftiness is shrouded,
And rain pours as clouds gather.

٥. الشَّمْسُ فِي عَلَيْائِهِ مَجْلُوَّةٌ
وَيضدُ النَّوَالِ تَصُوبُ صَوْبَ غَمَامِ

6. Egypt, whom you have honored and loved
With a sincere love from your soul.

٦. مِصْرُ الَّتِي أَعَزَزْتِهَا وَحَبَبْتِهَا
عَنْ ظُهْرِ نَفْسٍ مِنْكِ حُبَّ غَرَامِ

7. And you refused but for its hopes
To be where you busied yourself, the highest hopes.

٧. وَأَبَيْتِ إِلاَّ أَنْ يَكُونَ مَرَامُهَا
فِيمَا شُغِلْتِ بِهِ أجَلَّ مَرَامِ

8. You made its darkness your retinue,
And its masters your banners.

٨. جَعَلَتْ لِرَكْبِكِ مِنْ سَوَادِ قَطِينِهَا
سُوداً وَمِنْ سَادَاتِهَا الأَعْلامِ

9. They gathered for the mother of benefactors and filled
With sincere veneration and peace.

٩. حَفَلُوا لأُمِّ المُحْسِنِينَ وَأَمْمَأْوا
بِتَجِلَّةٍ مَصْدُوقَةٍ وَسَلامِ

10. Showing inspiration from their souls a gesture
That was gentle, inspired by the gentle inspiration.

١٠. يُبْدُونَ مِنْ وَحْيِ النُّفُوسِ إِشَارَةً
لَطُفَتْ وَلِلْوَحْيِ اللَّطِيفِ مَرَامِ

11. O people of this abode, it did not cease to be
Populated, with banners raised.

١١. يَا أَهْلَ هَذِي الدَّارِ لا بَرِحَتْ بِكُمْ
مَأْهُولَةً مَرْفُوعَةَ الأَعْلامِ

12. So when you are absent, we are not deprived
Of your pleasing return, O generous ones.

١٢. فَإِذَا نَأَيْتُمْ لا حُرِمْنَا عَوْدَكُمْ
مِنْ عُيَّبٍ مُتَرَقِّبِينَ كِرَامِ

13. I am inspired, O savior of the sanctuary,
To say words my pen flows with.

١٣. إِنِّي لأُلْهَمُ يَا مُفَدَّاةَ الحِمَى
قولاً وَتَنْبُو دُونَهُ أَقْلامِي

14. Far apart is what I utter
And its lofty place of inspiration.

١٤. شَتَّانَ مَا بَيْنَ الَّذِي يُدْنِينَهُ
وَمَكَانَهُ العَالِي مِنَ الإِلْهَامِ

15. Who can describe the magnificent deeds you immortalized
That did not suite the immortal glories?

١٥. مَنْ لِي بِوَصْفِ عَظَائِمٍ خَلَّدْتِهَا
لَمْ تَتَّسِقْ لِمُخَلَّدِين عِظامِ

16. The truthful have related about you what they have not
Related about the mothers of glory in Islam.

١٦. أَثَرَ الأَصَادِقُ عَنْكِ مَا لَمْ يَأْثُرُوا
عَنْ أُمَّهَاتِ المَجْدِ فِي الإِسْلامِ

17. Favors you have bestowed that encompassed the horizons,
In all you have reached of the nations' diversity.

١٧. مِنَنٌ شَمَلْتِ بِهَا المَشَارِقَ فَانْتَفَى
فِيمَا وَسِعْنَ تَبَايُنُ الأَقْوَامِ

18. In every heart an image of you is revealed
From every heart, the abode of honor.

١٨. فِي كُلِّ قَلْبٍ صُورَةٌ لَكِ أُنْزِلَتْ
مِنْ كُلِّ قَلْبٍ مُنْزِلَ الإِكْرَامِ

19. What have I found of praising you
During all my travels and sojourns?

١٩. مَاذَا وَجَدْتُ مِنَ الثَّنَاءِ عَلَيْكِ فِي
أَثْنَاءِ كُلِّ تَرَحُّلٍ وَمُقَامِ

20. I mentioned you while traveling the cities
Borne on the tossing, surging water.

٢٠. دَارَجْتُ ذِكْرَكِ وَالسَّفِينُ مَدَائِنٌ
حَمِلَتْ عَلَى ظَهْرِ الخِضَمِّ الطَّامِي

21. It was as if the gentle breezes
Were perfumed breaths spreading fragrance.

٢١. فَكَأَنَّمَا النَّسَمَاتُ وَهْيَ مُقِلًّةٌ
نَفَحَاتُهُ تَسْرِي بِنَشْرِ خَزَامِ

22. I mentioned you in sadness and in joy,
From the horizon's rim to the farthest reach.

٢٢. دَارَجْتُ ذِكْرَكِ فِي الحُزُونِ وَفِي الرُّبَى
مِنْ صَاقِبِ الأَطْرَافِ وَالمُتَرَامِي

23. I saw in the flowers' bloom a delicacy
Emerging in their fresh youth.

٢٣. فَرَأَيْتُ مِنَ زَهْرِ الرِّيَاضِ هَشَاشَةً
لِحَدِيثِهِ تَبْدُو مِنَ الأَكْمَامِ

24. I was thrilled by the birds singing it
And wandered in the river's clarity.

٢٤. وَطَرِبْتُ للأَطْيَارِ شَادِيَةً بِهِ
وَنَقَعْتُ فِي مَجْرَى الصَّفَاةِ أُوَامِي

25. I mentioned you in settlements and villages
Between green meadows and sand dunes.

٢٥. دَارَجْتُ ذِكْرَكِ فِي الحَوَاضِرِ وَالقُرَى
بَيْنَ المُرُوجِ الخُضْرِ وَالآكَامِ

26. The inhabited appeared inhabited by it
In every society and place.

٢٦. فَبَدَا لِيَ المَعْمُورُ معْمُوراً بِهِ
فِي كُلِّ مُجْتَمَعٍ وَكُل مَقَامِ

27. Which praises have not breathed into you
Shaking the firmness of dreams?

٢٧. أَيُّ المَحَامِدِ لَمْ تَكُنْ لَكِ نَفْحَةٌ
فِيهِ تَهُزُّ رَصِينَةَ الأَحْلامِ

28. Who was kinder than you to the orphans
And more compassionate to the bereaved?

٢٨. مَنْ بَرَّ بِرَّكِ بِالأيَامَى وَانْتَحَى
مَنْحَاكِ مِنْ حَدَبٍ عَلَى الأَيْتَامِ

29. For whom, when places were afflicted with drought,
Was dew more soothing after every barrenness?

٢٩. وَلِمَنْ سِوَاكَ إِذَا تَضَرَّمَتِ القُرَى
أَشْفَى نَدىً فِي إِثْرِ كُل ضِرَامِ

30. Who in dispelling every adversity
Is the kaaba of hopes for the blind?

٣٠. وَمنِ الَّتِي فِي دَفْعِ كُلِّ مُلِمَّةٍ
هِيَ كَعْبَةُ الآمَالِ لِلْمُعْتَامِ

31. And an unseen care, seen only
Through what you provide of favors?

٣١. وَعِنَايَةٌ مَحْجُوبَةٌ لَيْسَتْ تُرَى
إِلاَّ بِمَا تُسدِي مِنَ الإِنْعَامِ

32. This is the greeting of a poet who fulfils with it
What is due this year and every year after.

٣٢. هَذِي تَحِيَّةُ شَاعِرٍ يَقْضِي بِهَا
حَقَّ العُلَى فِي العَامِ بَعْدَ العَامِ

33. The splendor of its system reveals what qualities of yours
Are revealed in the splendor of the system.

٣٣. يَجْلُو بَدِيعُ نِظَامِهَا مَا تَنْجَلِي
عنه صِفَاتُكِ فِي بَدِيعِ نِظَامِ

34. You were exonerated, being a mirror
Clear of any clouding or blemish.

٣٤. بَرِئَت كَذَاتِكِ وَهْيَ مِرْآةٌ لَهَا
مِنْ كُلِّ غَاشِيَةٍ تَرِيبُ وَذَامِ

35. The world changes, its people wander,
While my pledge endures and my banner is my banner.

٣٥. تتَحَوَّلُ الدُّنْيَا تَجَوُّلَ أَهْلِهَا
وَالعَهْدُ عَهْدِي وَالذِّمَامُ ذِمَامِي

36. I have been tested with loyalty, so I do not see
For me praisers like the cohorts of blamers.

٣٦. وَلَقَدْ أُلامُ عَلَى الوَفَاءِ فَمَا أَرَى
لِيَ مَادِحِينَ كَزُمْرَةِ اللُّوَّامِ

37. Can one have two lifetimes to spend between
Breach and fulfillment of pledges?

٣٧. هَلْ لِلْفَتَى عُمْرَانِ يُفْنِي فِيهِمَا
قَلْبَيْنِ بَيْنَ النَّقْضِ وَالإبْرَامِ

38. Loyalty is an innate trait, only possessed
By men of wisdom and daring.

٣٨. إِنَّ الوَفَاءَ سَجِيَّةٌ لَمْ يُؤْتِهَا
إِلاَّ رِجَالُ الرَّأْيِ وَالإِقْدَامِ

39. Live long, do right, and forgive him
Great sins with good deeds.

٣٩. عِيشِي وَأَبْلِي الدَّهْرَ وَاغْتَفِرِي لَهُ
بِالصَّالِحَاتِ كَبَائِرَ الآثَامِ

40. Those achievements you built to last,
And who else builds for other than lasting?

٤٠. تِلْكَ المَآثِرُ لِلدَّوَامِ بَنَيْتِهَا
وَسِوَاكَ مَنْ يَبْنِي لِغَيْرِ دَوَامِ
