1. Who is like George Tahir, so pure of soul and fancy?
Who is like him, so free, and who is like him, so generous?
١. وَمَنْ مِثْلُ جُرْجُ طَاهِرُ النَّفْسِ وَالْهَوَ
ىَ وَمَنْ مِثْلُهُ حُرٌّ وَمَنْ مِثْلُهُ نَجْدُ
2. Calmly revealing the darkest veils,
Fierce when even lions are unsafe.
٢. وَثَوْبٌ إِلَى كَشْفِ الظَّلاَمَاتِ سَاكِنٌ
إِلَى بَأْسِهِ فِي حِينَ لاَ تَأْمَنُ الأُسْدُ
3. He chose the truest lineage,
And the farthest-reaching goal, thus perfecting his aim.
٣. تَخَيَّرَ فِي الأَنْسَابِ أَصْدَقَهَا عُلىً
وَأَبْعَدَهَا مَرْمىً فَتَمَّ لَهُ الْقَصْدُ
4. What noble kinsman has attained his station,
The rank of a noble one, generous when counted?
٤. وَأَي نَسيبٍ بَلِغٍ بِمُقَامِهِ
مُقَامَ نَجِيبٍ في الْكِرَامِ إِذَا عُدوْ
