1. I compose poetry in the branch of Hashim,
And could I in a couplet gather glory?
١. أَنرْتجِلُ الأَشْعَارَ فِي فَرْعِ هَاشِمٍ
وَهَل لِيَ فِي بَيْتَيْنِ أَنْ أَجْمَعَ الْمَجْدَ
2. In describing Abdallah, or part of his description,
He falters who would exhaust his talent.
٢. وَفِي وَصْفِ عَبْدِ اللهِ أَوْ بَعْضِ وَصْفِهِ
يُقصِّرُ مَنْ يَفْنِي قَرِيحَتهُ جُهْدَا
3. Would that the prince of Arabs rule in Yemen forever,
His grandfather ruled time, and you made him transcend,
٣. وَلَيْتَ أَمِيرَ الْعُرْبِ بِالْيُمْنِ دَوْلَةً
كَبَا جَدُّهَا دَهْراً فَأَعْلَيْتَهَا جِدَّا
4. With determination and wisdom you revived
What had died of it, and repelled
٤. بِعَزْمٍ وَحَزْمٍ أَحْيَيَا مِنْ مَوَاتِهَا
وَرَدَّا مِنَ الْعِزِّ الَّذِي دَالَ مَارِدَا
5. The glory that had declined into ruin.
Egypt, now it has revived through you, O pride of Arabs,
٥. فمِصْرُ وَقَدْ حَيَّتْكَ يَا فَخْرَ يَعْرُبٍ
تحَيِّي النَّدَى وَالنُّبْلَ والْبَأْسَ وَالجَدَّا
6. Salutes vigor, nobility, valor and transcendence.
Virtues fill the eye from wherever it rises,
٦. فَضَائِل مِلءُ الْعَيْنِ مِنْ حَيْثُ طُولِعَتْ
جِهَاتُ الْعُلَى فِيهَا أَرَتْ عَلَماً فَرْدا
7. The heights wherein the unique standard was seen.
My friend, do you know a place to visit
٧. أَمَوْلاَيَ هَلْ تَدْرِي مَكَاناً تَزُورُهُ
فَلاَ يَزْدَهِي عَجْباً وَلاَ يَنْتَشِي سَعْدَا
8. Where wonder would not make him dizzy, or joy elate?
No surprise that you made Egypt a protectorate
٨. فَلاَ غَرْوَ أَنْ أَلْقَيْتَ مِصْرَ حَفِيَّةً
تُعِيدُ عَلَى بَدْءٍ لِسُدَّتِكَ الوُدَّا
9. Restoring the old accord of your rule.
The full moon, by which you are illumined, is welcomed,
٩. وَيُسْتَقْبَلُ الْبَدْرُ الَّذِي بِكَ يُجْتَلَى
وَتَلْبَسُ فِي اسْتِقْبَالهِ الزَّمَنَ الوَرْدَا
10. And time wears roses to greet it.
And you send to Jordan the Nile's blessings,
١٠. وَتهْدِي إِلى الأُرْدُنِّ أَلْطافَ نِيلِهَا
ثَنَاءً عَلَيْهِ وَاحْتِفَاءً بَمَنْ أَهْدَى
