1. You rose like the sun with light and dew,
And you remained the sun of righteousness, O mistress of dew!
١. طَلَعْتِ طُلُوعَ الشَّمسِ بِالنُّورِ وَالنَّدَى
فَلاَ زِلْتِ شَمْسَ البِرِّ يَا رَبَّةَ النَّدَى
2. The sun may deprive the heedless of its rays,
But you did not deprive them of you, no matter the state.
٢. وَقَدْ تَحْرِمُ الشَّمسُ العُفَاةَ شُعَاعَهَا
وَلَمْ تَحْرِميهِمْ مِنْكِ فِي حَالَة يَدا
3. For your auspicious arrival Egypt exulted,
And its gardens blossomed, its nightingales trilled.
٣. لِمَقْدَمِكِ الْمَيْمُونِ مِصْرُ تَهَلَّلَتْ
وَجَنَّاتُهَا افْتَرَّتْ وَبُلْبُلُهَا شَدَا
4. I see smiles lighting up every face
That had faded in your absence.
٤. أَرَى بَسَمَاتٍ لِلِّقاءِ تَأْلَّقَتْ
عَلَى كُلِّ وَجْهٍ كَانَ إِذْ غِبْتِ مُكْمَدا
5. And I hear from all directions,
Songs of glad tidings echoing in souls.
٥. وَأَسْمَعُ فِي الأفَاقِ مِنْ كُلِّ جَانِبٍ
أَنَاشِيدَ بُشْرَى فِي النُّفوسِ لَهَا صَدَى
6. Throughout the length and breadth of the land
Are loyalists, absent and present,
٦. جَمَاهِيرُ فِي طُولِ الْبِلاَد وَعَرْضِهَا
مِنَ الحَافِظِينَ العَهْد غَيباً وَمَشْهَدَا
7. Each congratulating the soul for seeing
Your cherished return to the longing homeland.
٧. يُهَنِيءُ كُلُّ مِنْهُمُ النَّفسَ أَنْ يرَى
إِلى الْوَطَنِ الْمُشْتَاقِ عَوْدَكِ أَحْمَدَا
8. The daughters of verse braided their hair
To immortalize her whom glory immortalizes.
٨. تَنَادَتْ بَنَاتُ الشِّعرِ يَضْفَرْنَ لِلَّتِي
تُخَلِّدُهَا الالاءُ تَاجاً مُخَلَّدا
9. And when the Caesar boasts of his two crowns,
They have a luster more splendid and lasting.
٩. وَذَاكَ إِذَا بَاهَى بِتَاجَيه قَيْصَرٌ
لَهُ رَوْنَقٌ أَزْهَى وَأَبْقَى عَلَى الْمَدَى
10. Can some passing earthly trinket
Compare to the imperishable jewel of virtue?
١٠. أَيُعدَلُ بَاقٍ صِيْغَ مِنْ جَوْهَرِ النُّهَى
بِبَعْضِ الثَّرَى الْفَانِي وَإِنْ كَانَ عَسْجَدَا
11. It is fitting for the Nile valley to show its joy,
For what's within surpasses all that's displayed.
١١. حَقِيقٌ بِوَادِي النِّيلِ إِبْدَاءُ سَعْده
عَلَى أَنَّ مَا فِي النَّفْسِ أَضْعَافُ مَا بَدا
12. She whose station is rightly exalted,
Deserves the consensus of loyalists and foes.
١٢. فَإِنَّ الَّتِي يُعْلَى بِحَقٍّ مَقَامُهَا
لاَهْلٌ بِإِجْمَاعِ المُوالِينَ وَالعِدَى
13. Is she not the noblest of Eastern women,
In merit, rank, glory and splendor?
١٣. أَمَا هِيَ أَرْقَى نِسْوَة الشَّرْقِ شِيْمَةً
وَنُبْلاً وَأَسْمَاهُنَّ جَاهاً ومَحتِدا
14. I send my greetings to her lofty aspects,
And her return echoes in every heart.
١٤. إِلَى أَوْجِهَا الأعْلَى رَفَعْتُ تَحِيَّتي
وَفِي كُلِّ قَلْبٍ رَجْعُهَا قَد تَرَدَّدَا
15. I speak for Egypt, its people and glory,
Studying and renewing them tirelessly.
١٥. وَأَحْسَبُنِي عَنْ مِصْرَ نُبْتُ وَأَهْلِهَا
وَعَنْ مَجْدِ مِصْرٍ دَارِساً وَمُجَدَّدَا
16. For every sorrowful and wretched soul,
Hope returned at the door of the princess.
١٦. وَعَنْ كُلِّ مَحْزُونٍ وَعَنْ كُلِّ بَائِسٍ
بِهَا عَادَ عَنْ بَابِ الأمِيرَة بِالْجَدَا
17. For every anguished and fallen woman,
She extended a helping hand.
١٧. وَعَنْ كُلِّ مَلْهُوفٍ أَغَاثتْ وَحُرَّةٍ
مِنْ الْعاثِرَاتِ الجَدِّ مَدَّتْ لَهَا يَدا
18. For every graduate, skilled and learned,
She provided a place to excel.
١٨. وَعَنْ كُلِّ خِرِّيجٍ بِعِلْمٍ وَصَنْعَةٍ
أَقَامَتْ لَهُ فِي سَاحَة الْفَضْلِ مَعْهَدَا
19. And for the orphan whom she enriched,
Many became, through her grace, masters.
١٩. وَعَمَّا أَعَدَّتْ لِلْيَتِيمِ فَثَقَّفتْ
فَرُبَّ يَتِيمٍ عَادَ لِلْخَلْقِ سَيِّدَا
20. O jewel of the East, so noble
In the finest of ages, most glorious!
٢٠. أَيَا آيَةَ الشَّرْقِ الَّتِي ضَنَّت العُلَى
بِاشْرَفَ مِنْهَا فِي العُصُورِ وَأَمجَدَا
21. They call you mother of benefactors,
A true prayer, eternally on lips of glory.
٢١. دَعَوكِ بِأُمِّ الْمُحْسِنِينَ وَأَنَّها
لَدَعْوَةُ صِدْقٍ فِي فَمِ المَجْد سرْمَدا
22. You are their mother, and their princess -
Yes, yours are the world and its bounty.
٢٢. فَأَنْتِ لَهُمُ أُمُّ وَأَنْتِ أَمِيرَةٌ
