٨. لاَ كَانَتِ الحِجَجُ الَّتِي كَابَدْتُهَا

١٢. حجَج بَلَوْتُ المَوْتَ حِينَ بَلَوْتُهَا

١٥. جَذْلاَنَ كَالطِّفلِ السَّعيد بِعِيدِهِ
مُسْتَرْسِلاً فِي اللَّفْظِ وَالإِيمَاءِ

16. None were more generous than him to their brethren,
Had he owned the riches of the wealthy.

١٦. يَقْضِي وَذلِكَ نَذْرُهُ فِي يَوْمِهِ

٢٥. شَوقِي وَهَلْ بَعْدَ اسمِهِ شَرَفٌ إِذَا

٢٦. وَافَى وَمَنْ لِلفَاتِحينَ بِمِثلِ مَا

٤٥. أَرْعَى اتِّضاعَ أَخِي فَأُوجِزُ وَالَّذِي

٤٧. وَزَكَا إِلَى مَحبُوبِهَا تَحْنَانُهَا

٤٨. لاَ بِدْعَ فِي إِبْدَائِهَا لَكَ حُبَّها

٥١. رَوِيَ العِطَاشُ إِلى اللِّقَاءِ وَأَصبَحُوا

٥٢. وَبِجَانِبِ الفُسْطَاطِ حَيٌّ مُوْحِشٌ

٥٥. أَوْدَى بِهَا فَرْطُ السَّعادَةِ عِنْدَمَا
شَامَتْ لِطَلْعَتِهِ بَشِيرَ ضِيَاءِ

56. You founded for its unification
A pillar on which the best structure stood.

٥٦. لَكِنَّما عَوْدُ الْحَبِيبِ وَعِيدُهُ
رَدَّا إِلَيهَا الْحسَّ مِنْ إِغْفَاءِ

57. And you sowed in its morality and nature
The purest seeds which sprouted growth.

٥٧. فَفُؤادُهُا يَقِظٌ لَهُ فَرَحٌ بِهِ
وَبِفَرْقَدَيْهِ مِنْ أَبَرِّ سَمَاءِ

58. As for comrades, loyalty unlike theirs
Increased in sickness and in health.

٥٨. يَرْعَى خُطَى حُفَدَائِهَا وَيُعِيذُهُمْ
فِي كُلِّ نُقْلَةِ خُطْوَةٍ بِدُعَاءِ

٥٩. فِي رَحْمَةِ الرِّحْمَنِ قَرِّي وَاشْهَدِي

٦٠. وَلأُمِّه الكُبْرَى وَأُمِّك قَبْلَهُ

٦١. مصْرُ بشَوْقِي قَدْ أُقِرَّ مَكَانُهَا

62. They were the elders, youths, leaders
And troops in valor.

٦٢. هُوَ أَوْحَدُ الشَّرقَيْنِ مِنْ مُتَقَارِبٍ

Is honor, beyond price.

٦٨. أَصَحِبْتَهُ وَالنجْمُ نُصْبَ عُيُونِهِ
وَالشَّأوُ أَوْجَ القُبَّة الزَّرْقَاءِ

69. Would its guardian be stingy while below it
The protectors give their souls freely?

٦٩. إِذا بَاتَ يَسْتَوحِي فَأَوْغَلَ صَاعِداً
حَتَّى أَلمَّ بِمَصْدَرِ الإِيحَاءِ

٧٠. أَقَرَأْتَ فِي الطَّيرَانِ آيَاتٍ لَهُ

٧١. فَرَأَيتَ أَبدَعَ مَا يُرَى مِنْ مَنْظَرٍ

72. Love of zeal dictated to you its forms
However you desired, at your command.

٧٢. وَشَهِدتَ إِفشاءَ الطَّبيعَةِ سِرَّهَا
لِلعَقلِ بَعدَ الضَّن بِالإِفْشَاءِ

73. Exalt with love’s signs when it ascends
Stripped like translucent gems.

٧٣. أَشَفَيْتَ قَلْبَكَ مِن مَحَاسِنِ فَنِّهِ
فِي شُكْرِ مَا لِلنِّيلِ مِنْ آلاَءِ

74. It cleanses the heart’s senses
And adorns them with shimmering lights.

٧٤. يَا حُسْنَهُ شَكراً مِنِ ابنٍ مُخِلصٍ
لأَبٍ هُوَ المَفْدِيُّ بِالآبَاءِ

75. It returns the unseen’s facade unobstructed
And reflects the hidden without screens.

٧٥. أَغْلَى عَلَى مَاءِ الَّلآلِيءِ صَافياً
مَا فَاضَ ثَمَّة مِنْ مَشُوبِ المَاءِ

٧٦. أَتَهَادَتِ الأَهْرَامُ وَهْيَ طَرُوبَةٌ

٧٧. فَعَذَرْتُ خَفَّتهَا لِشِعْرٍ زَادَهَا
بِجَمَالِهِ البَاقِي جَمالَ بَقَاءِ

٧٨. أَنَظَرْتَ كَيْفَ حَبَا الْهَيَاكِلَ وَالدُّمَى

Your verse with dazzle and radiance.

٧٩. فكَأَنَّها بُعِثَتْ بِهِ أَرْوَاحُهَا
وَنَجَتْ بِقُوَّتِه مِنَ الإِقْوَاءِ

80. Prepare for your people while times are reconciling

٨٠. أَتَمَثَّلتْ لَكَ مِصْرُ فِي تَصْوِيرهِ
بِضَفَافِهَا وَجِنَانِهَا الْفيْحَاءِ

٨١. وَبَدَا لِوَهْمِكَ مِنْ حُلِيِّ نَبَاتِهَا

٨٣. فَعَجِبْتَ أَنَّي صَاغَ مِنْ تِلْكَ اللُّغَى
كَلِمَاتِ إِنْشَادٍ وَلَفْظَ غِنَاءِ

٨٤. للهِ يَا شَوْقِي بَدَائِعُكَ الَّتِي
لَوْ عُدِّدَتْ أَرْبَتْ عَلَى الإِحْصَاءِ

٨٥. مَنْ قَالَ قَبْلَكَ فِي رِثَاءٍ نِقْسُهُ
يَجْرِي دَماً مَا قُلْتَ فِي الْحَمْرَاءِ

٨٦. فِي أَرضِ أَنْدُلُسٍ وَفِي تَارِيخِهَا
وَغَرِيبِ مَا تُوحِي إِلى الغُرَبَاءِ

٨٧. جَارَيْتَ نَفْسَكَ مُبْدِعاً فِيهَا وَفِي
آثَارِ مِصْرَ فَظَلْتَ أَوْصَفَ رَائِي

٨٨. وَبَلَغْتَ شَأْوَ الْبُحْتُرِيِّ فَصَاحَةً
وَشَأَوْتَهُ مَعْنىً وَجَزْلَ أَدَاءِ

إِيجَازَ لاَ عِيٍّ وَلاَ إِعْيَاءِ

فِي أَنْفُسِ الفَهِمِينَ وَالأُرَبَاءِ

٩٦. وَمِنَ التَّناهِي فِي الْفَصَاحَةِ تَرْكُهَا
وَالْوَقْتُ وَقْتُ الخُطْبَةِ الْخَرْسَاءِ

٩٧. قَدْ سُقْتَهَا لِلشَّرْقِ دَرْساً حَافِلاً
بِمَوَاعِظِ الأَمْوَاتِ لِلأحْيَاءِ

٩٨. هَلْ تُصْلِحُ الأَقْوَامَ إِلاَّ مُثْلَةٌ
فَدَحَتْ كَتِلْكَ المُثْلَةِ الشَّنعَاءِ

٩٩. يَا بُلْبُلَ الْبَلَدِ الأَمِينِ وَمُؤنِسَ الْ
لَيْلِ الْحَزِينِ بِمُطْرِبِ الأَصْدَاءِ

١٠٠. غَبرَتْ وَقَائِعُ لَمْ تَكُنْ مُسْتَنْشَداً
فِيهَا وَلاَ اسْمُكَ مَالِيءَ الأَنْبَاءِ

١٠١. لَكِنْ بِوَحْيِكَ فَاهَ كُلُّ مُفَوَّهٍ
وَبِرَأْيِكَ اسْتَهْدَى أُولُو الآرَاءِ

١٠٢. هِيَ أُمَّة أَلْقَيْتَ فِي تَوحِيدَهَا
أُسًّا فَقَامَ عَلْيِه خَيْرُ بِنَاءِ

١٠٣. وَبَذَرْتَ فِي أَخلاَقِهَا وَخِلاَلِهَا
أَزْكَى البُذُورِ فَآذَنَتْ بِنَمَاءِ

١٠٤. أَمَّا الرِّفَاقُ فَمَا عَهِدْتِ وَلاَؤُهُمْ
بَلْ زَادَهُمْ مَا سَاءَ حُسنَ وَلاَءِ

١٠٥. وشَبَابُ مِصْرَ يَروَنَ مِنْكَ لَهُمْ أَباً
ويَرَوْنَ مِنْكَ بِمَنزِلِ الأَبنَاءِ

١٠٦. مِنْ قَوْلِكَ الحُرِّ الجَرِيءِ تَعَلَّمُوا
نَبَرَاتِ تِلْكَ العِزَّةِ القَعْسَاءِ

١٠٧. لا فَضلَ إِلاَّ فَضلُهُم فِيمَا انْتَهَي
أَمُر البِلاَدِ بَعْدَ عَنَاءِ

١٠٨. كانوا هُمُو الأشْيَاخَ وَالفِتْيَانَ وَال
قُوَّادَ وَالأَجْنَادَ فِي البَأْساءِ

١٠٩. لَمْ يَثْنِهِم يَومَ الذِّيَادِ عَنِ الحِمَى
ضَنٌّ بِأَموَالٍ وَلاَ بِدِمَاءِ

١١٠. أَبطَالُ تَفْدِيَةٍ لَقُوا جُهْدَ الأَذَى
فِي الحَقِّ وَامْتَنَعُوا مِنَ الإِيذَاءِ

١١١. سَلِمَتْ مَشيِئَتُهُم وَمَا فِيهمْ سِوَى
مُتَقَطِّعي الأَوصَالِ وَالأَعضَاءِ

١١٢. إِنَّ العَقِيدَةَ شِيمَةٌ عُلْوِيَّةٌ
تَصفُو عَلَى الأَكْدَارِ وَالأَقْذَاءِ

١١٣. تَجْنِي مَفَاخِرَ مِن إِهَانَاتِ العِدَى
وَتُصِيبُ إِعزازاً مِنَ الإِزرَاءِ

١١٤. بكْرٌ بِأَوجِ الحُسْنِ أَغَلى مَهْرَهَا
شَرَفٌ فَلَيْس غَلاَؤُهُ بِغَلاَءِ

١١٥. أَيُضَنُّ عَنْهَا بِالنَّفيسِ وَدُونَها
يَهَبُ الحُمَاةُ نُفُوسَهُمْ بِسَخاءِ

١١٦. تِلْكَ القَوَافِي الشَّارِدَاتُ وَهذِهِ
آثَارُهَا فِي أَنفُسِ القُرَّاءِ

١١٧. شَوْقِي إِخَالُكَ لَمْ تَقُلْهَا لاَهِياً
بِالنَّظمِ أَوْ مُتَبَاهِياً بِذَكَاءِ

١١٨. حُبُّ الحِمَى أَمْلَى عَلَيْكَ ضُرُوبَهَا
متَأَنِّقاً مَا شَاءَ فِي الإِملاَءِ

١١٩. أَعْظِمْ بِآياتِ الهَوَى إِذْ يَرْتَقِي
مُتجَرِّداً كَالجَوهَرِ الوضَّاءِ

١٢٠. فَيُطَهِّرُ الوِجْدَانَ مِنْ أَدْرَانِهِ
وَيَزِينُهُ بِسَواطِعِ الأًضوَاءِ

١٢١. وَيُعِيدُ وَجْهَ الغَيْبِ غَيْرَ مُحَجَّبٍ
وَيَرَدُّ خَافِيةً بِغَيرِ خَفَاءِ

١٢٢. أَرْسَلْتَها كَلِماً بَعِيدَاتِ المَدَى
تَرْمِي مَرَامِيَهَا بِلاَ إِخْطَاءِ

١٢٣. بيْنَا بَدَتْ وَهْيَ الرُّجُومُ إِذ اغْتَدَتْ
وَهْيَ النُّجومُ خَوَالِدَ اللَّأْلاَءِ

١٢٤. مَلأَتْ قُلُوبَ الْهائِبِينَ شَجَاعَةً
وَهَدَتْ بَصائِرَ خَابِطِي العَشْوَاءِ

١٢٥. مِنْ ذلِكَ الرُّوحِ الكَبِيرِ وَمَا بِهِ
يَزدَانُ نَظْمُكَ مِن سَنىً وَسَنَاءِ

١٢٦. أَعْدِدْ لِقَوْمِكَ وَالزَّمَانُ مُهَادِنٌ
مَا يَرتَقُونَ بِهِ ذُرَى العَليَاءِ

١٢٧. أَلْيَوْمَ يَوْمُكَ إِنَّ مِصرَ تَقَدَّمَتْ
لِمَآلِهَا بِكَرَامَةٍ وَإبَاءِ

١٢٨. فَصغِ الحُليَّ لَهَا وَتَوِّجْ رَأْسَهَا
إِذْ تَسْتَقِلُّ بِأَنْجُمٍ زَهْرَاءِ
