1. To Egypt I come from Syria
With greetings of honor to the honorable
١. إِلَى مِصْرٍ أَزُف عَنِ الشَّآمِ
تَحيَّاتِ الكِرَامِ إِلَى الكِرَامِ
2. Greetings overflowing with praise
Like the breeze, scented with flowers
٢. تحِياتٍ يَفُضُّ الْحَمْدُ مِنْهَا
فَمَ النَّسَمَاتِ عَنْ عَبَقِ الْخَزَامِ
3. I was assigned to her and my confidence emboldened me
Judging myself by the worth of the reformers
٣. نُدِبْتُ لَهَا وَجرَّأَنِي اعْتِدادِي
بِأَقْدَارِ الَدعَاةِ عَلَى الْقِيامِ
4. When good and gratitude prevail
Exchanging sincerity and harmony
٤. إذَا مَا كَانَ مَعْرُوفٌ وَشُكْرٌ
مَبَادَلَةَ التَّصَافِي وَالْوِئَامِ
5. My beloved homelands, out of love
I am the link in this system
٥. فَحُبّاً أَيُّهَا الوْطَنَانِ إِنَّي
وَسِيط الْعِقْدِ فِي هَذَا النِّظَامِ
6. A link not out of vainglory
My inferior opinion obliges my position
٦. وِسِيطُ الْعِقْدِ لا عَنْ زَهْوِ نَفْسٍ
أَقَلُّ الرَّأْيِ يُلْزِمَنِي مَقَامِي
7. But out of firm loyalty to me
And close care for the covenant
٧. وَلَكِنْ عَنْ وَلاءٍ بِي أكِيدٍ
وَعَنْ رَعْيٍ وَثِيقٍ لِلذِّمَامِ
8. Smile at me, O port of Beirut
Listen to the duty of kindness through a smile
٨. أعِرْنِي ثَغْرَ بَيْرُوتَ ابْتِساماً
أصُغْ فَرْضَ الجَمِيلِ مِنَ ابْتِسَامِ
9. O sea, lend me your precious pearls
To thread into speech
٩. وَيَا بَحْراً هُنَاكَ أعِرْ ثَنَائِي
نَفيسَ الدُّرِّ يُنْظَمُ فِي الْكَلامِ
10. O forests of sacred Lebanon
Renewed from old vigor and valor
١٠. وَيَا غَابَاتِ لُبْنَانَ المُفَدَّى
مِنَ الدَّوْحِ المُجَدَّدِ وَالْقُدَامِ
11. I see you have tender feelings
Your affection was mentioned, aroused from love
١١. أَرَاكَ عَلَى الْكِنَانَةِ عَاطِفَاتٍ
وَقَدْ ذُكِرَتْ أَمَيْلُكَ مِنْ غَرَامِ
12. Give me pure kindred souls
To convey the greetings of peace
١٢. أَمِدِّيني بِأَرْوَاحٍ زَوَاكٍ
لأُقْرِئَهَا الزَّكِيَّ مِنَ السَّلامِ
13. My country, your love remains with me
As it was before weaning
١٣. بِلادِي لا يَزَالُ هَوَاكَ مِنِّي
كَمَا كَانَ الْهَوَى قَبْلَ الْفِطَامِ
14. I kiss your soil where enemies
Cast filth, missing the target
١٤. أُقَبِّلُ مِنْكَ حَيْثُ رَمَى الأعادِي
رَغَاماً طَاهِراً دُونَ الرَّغَامِ
15. I sacrifice myself for every frozen arrogance
Which fell from the bombs of the despicable mob
١٥. وَأُفْدِي كُلَّ جُلْمُودٍ فَتِيتٍ
وَهَى بِقَنَابِلِ الْقَوْمِ اللِّئَامِ
16. How can the whelp lie slaughtered?
Its bones crushed on the dusty ground
١٦. فَكَيْفَ الشِّبْلُ مُخْتَبطاً صَرِيعاً
عَلَى الْغَبْرَاءِ مَهْشُومَ الْعِظَامِ
17. How can the child be killed though guiltless?
Its innocence undefiled by guilt
١٧. وَكَيْفَ الطِّفْلُ لَمْ يُقْتَلْ لِذَنْبٍ
وَذَاتُ الخِدْرِ لَمْ تُهْتَكْ لِذَامِ
18. By the justice of the impartial
Are not the desperate blamed for blaming?
١٨. لَعَمْرُ المُنْصِفِينَ أَبَعْدَ هَذَا
يُلامُ المُسْتَشِيطُ عَلَى المُلامِ
19. God has made the ambitions barren where they settled
For that is the worst corruption of peace
١٩. لَحَى اللهُ المَطَامِعَ حَيْثُ حَلَّتْ
فِتِلْكَ أشَدُّ آفَاتِ السَّلامِ
20. Troubling pure water
And spreading disease through drinking places
٢٠. تَشُوبُ المَاءَ وَهْوَ أَغَرُّ صَافٍ
وَتَمْشِي فِي المَشَارِبِ بِالسِّقَامِ
21. To kill the safe and say " console yourself -
Your bath is no dove's bath"!
٢١. أَيُقْتَلُ آمِنٌ وَيُقَالُ رَفِّهْ
عَلَيْكَ فَمَا حِمَامُكَ بِالحِمَامِ
22. You will be happy with what heals you soon
And enjoy, after sinking, the high position
٢٢. سَتَسْعَدُ بِالَّذِي يَشْفِيكَ حَالاً
وَتَنْعَمُ بَعْدَ خَسْفٍ بِالمَقَامِ
23. Either you live free
A peak of aspiration
٢٣. فَإِمَّا أَنْ تَعِيشَ وَأَنْتَ حُرٌّ
فَذَاكَ مِنَ التَّغَالِي فِي المرَامِ
24. Or you contribute to the heights
Your strings aimed at the heights
٢٤. وَإِمَّا أَنْ تُسَاهمَ فِي المَعَالي
فَطَائِشَةٌ بِمَرْمَاكَ المَرَامِي
25. An era has passed when neighbor sheltered neighbor
And the unlawful was taken for the weak
٢٥. مَضَى عَهْدٌ يُجَارُ الْجَارُ فِيهِ
وَيُؤْخَذُ لِلْحَلامِ مِنَ الحَرَامِ
26. This is an age of rivalry
With no limit, to gain ruins
٢٦. وَهَذَا الْعَهْدُ مَيْدَانُ التَّبَارِي
بِلا حَدٍ إِلَى كَسْبِ الْحُطَامِ
27. Whatever you wish is permitted - take it
By right of opinion or right of sword
٢٧. مُبَاحٌ مَا تَشَاءُ فَخُذْهُ إِمَّا
بِحَقِّ الرَّأْيِ أَوْ حَقِّ الْحُسَامِ
28. Don't heed the wailing of victims
Or your conscience's plaint in darkness
٢٨. وَلا تَكُرُثْكَ نَوْحَاتُ الثَّكَالَى
وَلا شَكْوَى ضَمِيرِكَ فِي الظَّلامِ
29. Masters of greed, you haven't mentioned
What steps up asleep, the law
٢٩. أَساتِذَةً المَطَامِعِ مَا ذَكَرْتُمْ
هُوَ النَّامُوسُ يَقْدُمُ وَهْوَ نَامِ
30. So let no weak one be weakened
Or seen as fit food for the lion's grip
٣٠. فَلا يَضْعُفْ ضَعِيفٌ أَوْ نرَاهُ
لِنابِ الليْثِ يُصْلَحُ فِي الطَّعَامِ
31. We understand the course of the aggressor against us
And excuse of the august rulers
٣١. فَهِمْنَا مَأْخَذَ الْجَانِي عَلَيْنَا
وَإِعْذَارَ المُسِمِينَ الْعِظَامِ
32. The alternative to an age in which
The arrogance of the people ruled the titans
٣٢. وَإِنَّ بَدِيلَ عَصْرٍ كَانَ فِيهِ
عِجَافُ الْقَوْمِ مِلْكاً لِلضِّخَامِ
33. A time when one people prevailed over another
And reduced it to the status of slaves
٣٣. زَمَانٌ سَادَ شَعْبٌ فِيهِ شَعْباً
وَأَنْزَلَهُ بِمَنْزِلَةِ السَّوَامِ
34. So a people of kings - what were
Their degrees, and a people of tyrants?
٣٤. فَقَوْمٌ مِنْ مُلُوكٍ كَيْفَ كَانَتْ
مَرَاتِبُهُمْ وَقَوْمٌ مِنْ طَغَامِ
35. Between the two races a difference in kind
Despite all being human
٣٥. وَبَيْنَ الْعُنْصُرَيْنِ خِلافُ نَوْعٍ
عَلَى كَوْنِ الْجَمِيعِ مِنَ الأَنَامِ
36. I say, and the East has awakened terrified
From a state like a dream
٣٦. أَقُولُ وَقَدْ أَفَاقَ الشَّرْقُ ذُعْراً
مِنَ الْحَالِ الشَّبِيهَةِ بِالمَنَامِ
37. At the roar of thunder defending it
And the dance of death between its hills and sands
٣٧. عَلَى صَخَبِ الرَّوَاعِدِ فِي حِمَاهُ
وَرَقْصِ المَوْتِ بَيْنَ طُلىً وَهَامِ
38. I say with its voice to the defenders of a house
Pelted by rebels of the West, throwing spears
٣٨. أَقُولُ بِصَوْتِهِ لِحُمَاةِ دَارٍ
رَمَاهَا مِنْ بُغَاةِ الغَرْبِ رَامِ
39. The pride of Arabs and Turks refusing oppression
Eagles of Syria, lions of the thickets
٣٩. أُبَاةَ الضَّيمِ مِنْ عَرَبٍ وَتُركٍ
نُسُورَ الشُّمِّ أسَادَ المَوَامِي
40. The heroes of the age on horse and foot
Stars appearing from behind the veils
٤٠. قَرُومَ العَصْرِ فُرْساناً وَرَجْلاً
نُجُومَ الكَرِّ مِنْ خَلْفِ اللِّثَامِ
41. We are sick with luxury, so wake us
With zeal curing finer slumber
٤١. بَنَا مَرَضُ النَّعِيمِ فَنَسِّمُونَا
وَغىً يَشْفِي مِنَ الصَّفْوِ العُقَامِ
42. The numbness of stillness is in us - warm us
With fever of leaping where fear is red
٤٢. بِنَا بَرْدُ المُكُوثِ فَادْفِئونَا
بِحُمَّى الْوَثْبِ حَيْثُ الْخَطْبُ حَامِ
43. In us the deafness of hearing - so startle us
With the clashing of steel when swords meet
٤٣. بَنَا عَطَلُ السَّمَاعِ فَشَنِّفُونَا
بِقَعْقَعَةِ الْحَدِيدِ لَدَى الصِّدَامِ
44. You have brought mighty proof
That we return to perfection
٤٤. لَقَدْ جِئْتُمْ بِبُرْهَانٍ عَظِيمٍ
عَلَى أَنَّا نَعُودُ إِلَى التَّمَامِ
45. That if we err or slip
We refuse to be blamed by force
٤٥. وَأَنَّا إِنْ جَهِلْنَا أَوْ غَلِطْنَا
أَنِفْتَا أَنْ نُعَاتَبَ بِاحْتِكَامِ
46. I am here, having failed to keep
Our tryst, discerning the conclusion
٤٦. وَأَنَا حَيْثُ فَاتَحَنَا كَذُوبٌ
بِمِيعَادٍ فَطِنَّا لِلْخِتَامِ
47. If words seem decorated, we spurn
Using them like the tricks of wine
٤٧. فَإِنْ زِينَتْ لَنَا الأَقْوَالُ عِفْنَا
تَعاطِيهَا كَمَاكِرَةِ المُدَامِ
48. In this hope we walk steadily
Guided toward the imam
٤٨. عَلَى هَذَا الرَّجَاءِ وَنَحْنُ فِيهِ
نَسِيرُ مُوَفَّقِينَ إِلَى الإمَامِ
49. I stand lifting my veneration for my people
To Abbas the intrepid king
٤٩. مُثُولِي رَافِعاً إِجْلالَ قَومِي
إِلَى عَبَّاسٍ المَلِكِ الْهُمَامِ
50. To the king of solidarity and kinship
Leader of the East after the imam
٥٠. إِلَى مَلِكِ التَّضَامُنِ وَالتَّآخِي
عَمِيدِ الشَّرْقِ مِنْ بَعْدِ الإمَامِ
51. I proclaim my utmost capacity
In praising his brother, the lofty summit
٥١. وَجَهْرِي جَهْدَ مَا تَسَعُ المَعَانِي
بِمَدْحِ شَقِيقِهِ السَّنِمِ المقَامِ
52. Perfecting the emirate of the sublime origin
With overflowing merit like the origin's tower
٥٢. مُتِمِّ إمَارَةِ الأَصْلِ المُعَلَّى
بِفَضْلٍ بَاذِخٍ كَالأَصْلِ سَامِ
53. And I pray God empowers Egypt
And grants it eternal Sa’ud
٥٣. وَأَدْعُو أَنْ يُعِزَّ اللهَ مِصْراً
وَيَولِيَهَا السُّعُودَ عَلَى الدَّوَامِ
