1. He brought together every frowning, gloomy-browed misanthrope,
A fool with a mantle woven with guile.
١. قَرَّبنَ كلَّ صَلَخدىً مُحنِقٍ قَطِمٍ
عهوٍ لَهُ ثَبَجٌ بِالنِيِّ مَضبورُ
2. So if you were to change or backbite any man,
Let not one with two thousand deceive you.
٢. فَإِن تَبَدَّلتَ أَو كَلّأت مِن رجُلٍ
فَلا يَغُرَّنكَ ذو أَلفَينِ مَغمورُ
3. Until when his notable pillars collapsed,
And a swollen stream burst with ferment.
٣. حَتّى إِذا أَنجَدت أَرواقُهُ اِنهَزَمَت
وَاِعتَقَّ مُنبَعِجٌ بِالوَبلِ مَبقورُ
4. And the morning star spun it for seventy years,
As if beside the Fawr dunes, pegged down.
٤. وَكَركَرتهُ الصَبا سَبعين تَحسَبُه
كَأَنَّه بِحِيالِ الفَورِ مَعقورُ
