1. O bull, do not insult my honor, may your father be sacrificed for you,
For insults are only for hostile people.
١. يا ثَورُ لا تَشتُمَن عِرضي فِداكَ أَبي
فَإِنَّما الشَتمُ لِلقَومِ العَواويرِ
2. No noble, generous, chaste worshipper has ever been harmed,
By the likes of vile, debased sinners.
٢. ما عَقرُ نابٍ لِأَمثالِ الدُمى فَرِدٍ
عَونٍ كِرامٍ وَأَبكارٍ مَعاصيرِ
3. They cling to me, begging the villages for ancestry,
Yet they leave me with no excuses.
٣. عَلَقنَ حَولِيَ يَسأَلنَ القِرى أُصُلاً
وَلَيسَ يَمضينَ مِنّي بِالمَعاذيرِ
4. Take them in as guests after your slumber
In the darkest hour of the scattered night.
٤. هَبهُنَّ ضَيفاً عَراكُم بَعدَ هَجعَتِكُم
في قَطقَطٍ مِن سَقيطِ اللَيلِ مَنثورِ
5. You have neither milk nor honey near,
Will the guest leave you deprived?
٥. وَلَيسَ قُربُكُمُ شاءٌ وَلا لَبَنُ
أَيَرجِعُ الضَيفُ عَنكُم غَيرَ مَحبورِ
6. Of what use is a waterskin that comes full but leaves empty,
Not pouring out for the thirsty foot traveler?
٦. ما خَيرُ وارِدَةٍ لِلماءِ صادِرَةٍ
لا تَنجَلي عَن عَقيرِ الرِجلِ مَنحورِ
