1. In the dark night I soothed his panting chest
After the wind stole the kisses of his neck
١. وَمُرْتَدٍ بِالُّدجَى رَوَّحْتُ صَهْوَتَهُ
بَعْدَ اخْتِلاسِ ذَماءِ الرِّيحِ بِالعَنَقِ
2. Yet at dawn I did not stroke his hoofs
Nor bid him farewell as night fell
٢. فَما مَسَحْتُ بِعُرْفِ الصُّبْحِ حافِرَهُ
وَلا فَلَيْتُ عَلَيْهِ لِمَّة الغَسَقِ
3. None in this land can journey to him
To soothe the night’s torment with the smile of dawn
٣. وَلَيْسَ فِي الأَرْضِ مَنْ يَطْوي إِليهِ فَلاً
يَجْلو لَمَى اللَّيْلِ فيها مَبسِمُ الفَلَقِ
