1. Cling, my brother, to honored deeds,
Sip the nectars of noble ancestry.
١. تَشَبَّثْ يا أُخيَّ بِمَكْرُماتٍ
تَنوشُ ذوائِبَ الحَسَبِ التَّليدِ
2. For we set up fellowships leading to them,
While the glance of favor smiles on the beneficiary.
٢. فَنَحْنُ نَحِلُّ أَنْدِيَةً إِلَيْها
ثَنى النَّعْماءُ طَرْفَ ألمُسْتَفيدِ
3. And we wield well-burnished lances,
And parade in suits of mail.
٣. وَنَعْتَقِلُ الرِّماحَ مُثَقَّفاتٍ
وَنَرْفُلُ في سَرابِيلِ الحَديدِ
4. Once we were kings in the wilds,
Singing what Abu Yazid had built.
٤. وَقَدْ كُنا المُلوكَ على البَرَايا
نُشَيِّدُ ما بَناهُ أَبو يَزيدِ
5. But time has tugged at the cloak of honor,
Disgracing the freeborn with the guise of slaves.
٥. فَجاذَبَنا رِداءَ العِزِّ دَهْرٌ
جَلا الأحْرارَ في صُوَرِ العَبيدِ
