ألا هل يفيق الدهر من سكراته

1. Will time not awaken from its intoxications
And cast off the veils of sleep from its eyes?

١. أَلا هَلْ يُفيقُ الدَّهْرُ مِنْ سَكراتِهِ
وَيَرْفَضُّ عَن أَجْفانِهِ طارِقُ الحُلْمِ

2. Will the tyrant of the two lips not shine with my palm
Behind a clattering, blood-dripping bow?

٢. وَيَلْمَعُ طاغِي الشَّفْرَتَيْنِ بِراحَتِي
وَراءَ عَجاجٍ راشِحٍ بِدَمٍ سَجْمِ

3. I have a companion from the slaves of the sun - when he aspires
He climbs to the peak of mighty glory.

٣. وَلي صاحِبٌ مِنْ عَبْدِ شَمْسٍ إِذا انْتَمى
تَسَنَّمَ أَعْلَى ذِرْوَةِ الشَّرَفِ الضَّخْمِ

4. He turned away and stirred up war, directing its fury at me -
An era that once inclined toward peace.

٤. نَأَى فَأَثارَ الحَرْبَ يَصْرِفُ نابَها
عَلَيَّ زَمانٌ كانَ يَجْنَحُ لِلسِّلمِ

5. So it does not cease to be watered by clouds whenever it intends
What darkness lies in the breaches of lightnings.

٥. فَلا زالَ يَرْويهِ الغَمامُ إِذا هَمى
بِما في ثُغورِ البارِقاتِ مِنَ الظَّلْمِ
