1. In the valleys of steeds, the night grew dusk
A noble gray on the edges of deceit’s plain, dimly lit

2. His steadfast companion as black as night
Vying with the darkness, jet black yet glistening

3. When gloom casts her cloak, dawn emerges
Smiling from the edges of his mane

4. I shot my gaze at the abode where the pure wine flows
Thursday’s draft and old wine well aged

5. So I visited but never to beg meanly
Love is cheaper than the date wine of Juradh

6. I got but a glimpse from behind her veil
My chastity and your talk suppressed

7. Had I wished, the tinkling of her anklet rewarded me
Jeweled and ornate as it clicked

8. But I was chivalrous, desire still stirred yet
I guarded my honor as gossip spread

9. Hand in hand we walked all night
Traveling, she lay protected beneath my mount’s saddle

10. My camel glided, barely brushing the ground
Lest the earth’s dust touch her cheek

11. She sauntered like the sky, lit with
Stars cradled in her sheltering sides like gems

12. She'd outpace horses, had they passed by her
Panting hard, oppressed and burdened

13. Her hooves shone on the ground
Like mirrors, tinged red by the blood

14. At the caller’s warble, they pranced in the wild
As we lounged atop their backs, chanting

15. When the brilliant crown appeared, they whispered
To it, the rhymes and the worn-out mount

16. I said “let them rest”, for after seeing him
The inviolate herd is forbidden to them

17. My mighty one, from Hashim’s clan
Lesser matters shrink, greater matters swell

18. When the sand grouse speak of him at Mina
Even pebbles and Zamzam well scream his name

19. Pulpits shake at the mention of his name
You’d think them possessed, uttering his glory

20. He unleashed his battalions on his foes
Flanked by heroes in armor upright and staunch

21. In fitted chainmail forged by the armorer
It carved his enemies, throwing them broken in the dust

22. Horses with braided manes and sturdy frames
Beautiful, primed to charge and trample

23. Wolves follow in their trail unharmed
While young deer safely graze the saltwort

24. To you, Commander of the Faithful, I guided them
Wild fillies growing free in the meadows

25. I stand watching on the hilltop
No gloomy valley appeals to me

26. Had it not been for you, I would not be inspired to poetry
Nay, I am impelled by your glory to compose

27. No eulogies were recited but for you
No boons showered but in your valleys
