1. She glanced, surprising yearning souls,
And hearts complained of what eyes had reaped.
2. I wept when she laughed, and her mouth resembled
My teardrops, each a hidden pearl.
3. My love, if my passion is hidden from you,
Ask the dark night how I fare.
4. And inquire of the stars, for they have seen
My vigil and the shedding of my copious tears.
5. And if, in love, I have abased my guarded tears,
The anguished depends on weeping.
