1. Love of the beloved stirs when the breeze blows,
Recalling homelands where youth was spent.

2. A gaze promising the lover some solace,
If the glittering eyes would shed a tender tear.

3. O sanctuary of loved ones and youth now departed,
When will the thirsty find watering holes to drink?

4. O home of Salma, we're now far apart,
When will time bring you near, tormenting my youth?

5. At dawn, doves scatter their paper petals,
Though darkness conceals the evensong star.

6. No wonder grief persists in this meadow,
Since all have vanished from this meadow.

7. By God, how many encampments we knew,
Where we rode for joy and play.

8. Sanctuaries where we were intimate friends,
O sweetest life once lived within them!

9. Revels and music were mine there,
Now I crave only honor and repute.

10. I've reined in my roving eyes,
For the cheeks of my love have grayed.

11. Begone my heart from Sa'di and Zainab,
For I'm forewarned of Saba's tidings.

12. I will sail my ships for dear ones
And cross a sea for great deeds.

13. For from Yathrib's horizon dawned a flash,
Blessing my life with the beloved's grace.

14. Marvel that a heart roams east
While a body settled in the west.

15. Inform my loved ones that I have
A heart aflame with ardent longing.

16. When my companions recall me on their night journey,
I'm disturbed like doves in leafy bowers.

17. The thought of carnelian excites me, till I sway
Like a branch pulled by the hand of youth.

18. O dawn breeze, convey regards that grew
Like flowers nourished by the rain.

19. To the pure, the most pious, the exalted Muhammad,
And his lofty companions in glorious stations.
