٢. ردوا لويلات مضين فأضلعى
تحنى جوانحها على جمر الغضا
3. O you who severed ties, show kindness to one
Whose solace for your absence was found wanting.
٣. يا متلفى بصدوده رفقاً بمن
ببعادكم عن وصلكم قد عوّضا
4. I yielded to what you wished though I
Still yield to what you wish.
٤. فوّضت فيما ترتضيه وإنني
ما زلت فيما ترتضيه مفوّضا
5. Grant your consent to one who seeks you, refuge-bound—
You still confer consent on those who seek your refuge.
٥. فامنح رضاك لقاصد بك لائذ
مازلت تمنح من يلوذ بك الرضا
6. O you whose absence caused him torment, his companion cries,
May you one day, neglected one, grant consent.
٦. يا من شجاه البعد تاد بنادهم
فعساك يا مهجور يوما ترتضى
7. Grasp the remains of life—awake!—
Prudence dictates you rouse from your swoon.
٧. أدرك بقايا العمر ويحك وانتهض
فالحزم يا حلف الونى أن تنهضا
8. This, your ransom, the month of your fast departs,
A lightning flash that brightly sparked and vanished.
٨. هذا فديتك شهر صومك راحل
وكأنه برق أضاء فأومضا
9. Did you draw near during it, becoming a good neighbor?
Fulfilling its rights, which are now fulfilled?
٩. أتراك قد حسنت فيه جواره
وقضيت فيه حقوقه فقد اتقضا
10. None attains hopes but the sincere one
Whose affection for its Sender is pure.
١٠. ما فاز بالآمال إلا مخلص
فيه الوداد لمرسليه أمحضا
11. I grieve the month of my delights,
Accessible, but I turned away once I turned away.
١١. أسفى على شهر مسراتي به
كانت تتاح فأعرضت مذ أعرضا
12. The month of fasting has left—so pour out your tears, my eye,
As profuse, flowing tears.
١٢. شهر الصيام نأى فيا عيني اسكبي
دمع الجفون مذهبا ومفضضا
13. How many lids by it dropped copious, indulgent tears
Seeking the pleasure of the Pleased.
١٣. كم سحب أجفان به هطلت لذى
للرضا متعرضا
14. Nights of wakefulness, heedless of tears,
Fulfilling from yearning what wish fulfills.
١٤. سهر الليالي مهملا لدموعه
وقضى به من شوقه ما قد قضى
15. None plucks the fruit of his hopes from its garden
Save a youth who never slept during its night.
١٥. لا يجتنى ثمر المنى من روضه
إلا فتى في ليله ما غمّضا
