1. I passed by their valley in distress,
Though the water in it was not scarce,

2. And I was after bidding my friends farewell,
So the river overflowed with the water of my eyelids.

3. By God, nothing makes my yearning more intense,
I complain to the valley with my poetry,

4. Melting the heart of the sorrowful with my lamentation.
O hills of you, my heart grieves,

5. Mourning atop the branches of the saplings.
If I have taken weeping as my religion,

6. Then let tears flow abundantly down my cheek as my faith.
I suffer estrangement and separation's torment,

7. And the distance in affliction has weakened my eyes.
O dove, show me where they went,

8. For the sake of the reins of their love show me.
Though not long has passed since their departure,

9. But I see separation gathering my sorrows.
My heart, the day they left, became

10. Like burning embers when they bid me farewell.
O morning breeze to their highland,

11. For your sake, convey the moaning of my lament.
Over their plains the trains of my garment flowed,

12. And by their tents, let it remind them of me.
And if one day they ask about my passion for them,

13. Describe to them the state of my sorrows.
I am forever enamored with them, and I have nothing

14. Except the memory of them at all times.
Maybe time will unite what has been separated,

15. And fulfill my hopes regarding them.
