1. My heart burns with the pangs of love,
Though love brings it to ruin.

2. Arrows of love pierce lovers' hearts,
Yet love remains the lover's prize.

3. I've not seen souls perish like lovers' souls,
For to lovers, love is all gain.

4. How passion rules their inner beings!
Naught rules but what passion decrees.

5. This love-sick youth is guaranteed
His life will end on love's keen blades.

6. Naught of him remains but remnants,
Though he hides his wounds, bears pain.

7. He wears love's robe, despair's cloak,
Marked by longing, woe engraved.

8. When darkest night spreads inky wings,
His tears make the dark glow bright.

9. He wields his sword, patience his shield,
While longing storms his heart's keep.

10. Passion built a dwelling in him,
Leaving him love's zealous preacher.

11. The summons of being sang to him,
So he cried out, fanning love's flame.

12. Wisdom warred regarding his state;
He resigned that no peace comes in storms.

13. He pondered his existence's meaning,
And eloquent sages addressed him.

14. He saw the secret of existence truly,
As revelation's stars rose in his sky.

15. He who deciphers destiny's symbols
Sees the pattern drawn on the cosmos.

16. So contemplate, for the matter is grave,
If you understand the Sufi way.

17. Invocations at appointed times are a must,
Else the spiritual meaning you will miss.
