1. Our natures are more fragrant than the flowers of the meadow,
And we reckon ourselves brighter than the stars of the sky.
١. خَلائِقُنا مِن زَهرَةِ الرَوضِ أَعطَرُ
وَأَحسَبُنا مِن أَنجُمِ الجَوِّ أَنوَرُ
2. Yet we live in dark tents while darkness is gloomy,
And we are oceans of peace while peace is most floral.
٢. وَنَحنُ بُدورُ النَقعِ وَالنَقعُ مُظلِمٌ
وَنَحنُ بُحورُ السَلمِ وَالسَلمُ أَزهَرُ
3. Noble men, when resolve takes sustenance from us,
Exuding for them a fragrance and ambergris.
٣. كِرامٌ إِذا ما اِستَنشَقَ القَصدُ رَفدَنا
يَفوحُ لَهُ مِنهُ عَبيرٌ وَعَنبَرُ
4. The land becomes confused by their towering deeds,
Their virtues in all things being far more.
٤. يَتيهُ الثَرى مِنّا بِوَطئٍ غَطارِفٍ
مَناقِبُهُم مِن كُلِّ ما فيهِ أَكثَرُ
5. And through us the days are adorned as though we
Are jewelry wrought and gemstones for its steeds.
٥. وَتُزهى بِنا الأَيّامُ حَتّى كَأَنَّنا
لِأَجيادِها حَليٌ مَصوغٌ وَجَوهَرُ
6. For had we not been the best of realms, ours would not be
Authority imposed on fate and arrogance.
٦. فَلَو لَم نَكُن خَيرَ الوَرى لَم يَكُن لَنا
عَلى الدَهرِ حُكمٌ نافِذٌ وَتَجَبُّرُ
