1. An era in which the literati have excelled
Yet they lack sincerity in their season
١. زَمانٌ بارَتِ الأُدَباءُ فيهِ
فَلَيسَ لَهُم بِمَوسِمِهِ نَفاقُ
2. It leads me from one sorrow to the next
While my reproach is driven from their hearing
٢. يَسوقُ إِلَيَّ هَمّا بَعدَ هَمٍّ
وَعَتبي عَن مَسامِعِهِ يُساقُ
3. Since I have no more hope of remaining
Does the new moon remain in its last phase?
٣. لِأَنّي لَستُ آمُلُ بُقياً
وَهَل يَبقى عَلى القَمَرِ المَحاقُ
