1. The West is musk at night,
And the East, at dawn, is ambergris.
١. الغَربُ بِاللَيلِ مِسكٌ
وَالشَرقُ بِالفَجرِ نَدُّ
2. In the wine's garden
Is a rose of soft down and petals.
٢. وَرَوضَةُ الجامِ فيها
مِن زَهرَةِ الراحِ وَردُ
3. So drink on the cheek of a land
Watered by a moist jawbone,
٣. فَاِشرَب عَلى وَجهِ أَرضٍ
لَها مِنَ الماءِ خَدُّ
4. That no wind has touched,
Save to bend it while still unripe.
٤. لَم تُلقِهِ الريحُ سَبطاً
إِلّا اِنثَنى وَهوَ جَعدُ
5. In it let your day be
A string of pearls from the salt sea.
٥. فَجيدُ يَومِكَ فيهِ
مِنَ المِلاحَةِ عِقدُ
