1. A poet from the lineage of woodworkers
Does not aspire to dignity,
١. وَشاعِرٍ مِن بَني النجارِ
لا يَتَهَدّى إِلى الوَقارِ
2. If a rag covers him, he is clothed,
Nothing but shame can clothe him,
٢. إِن عُرِّيَت فَيشَةٌ كَساها
ما لَيسَ يَكسوهُ غَيرَ عارِ
3. The night shelters him from all
But his own dark soul.
٣. وَجَنَّهُ اللَيلُ قَطُّ إِلّا
وَأَولَجَ اللَيلَ في النارِ
