1. Do not offer the bitter cup to your companion,
For it is turbid for whoever tastes it.
١. لا تَسقِ ماء التَجَنّي مَن تُصاحِبُه
فَإِنَّهُ كَدِرٌ مَن ذاقَهُ شَرِقا
2. And be a gentle friend, do not be annoyed,
For the best companion of man is he who is gentle.
٢. وَكُن رَفيقاً رَفيقاً لا تَكُن ضَجِراً
فَخَيرُ مَن رافَقَ الإِنسانَ مَن رَفِقا
