We have, without sudden fright,

لنا بغير نفاجه

1. We have, without sudden fright,
A goose and chicken plump and white,

١. لَنا بِغَيرِ نَفاجَهَ
إِوَزَّةٌ وَدَجاجَه

2. A docile lad whose nature quite
Abhors all rage and fight.

٢. وَمُسمِعٌ فيهِ طَبعٌ
لا تَعتَريهِ فَجاجَه

3. And water from a generous vine
Would almost hide it in its shine

٣. وَعِندَنا ماءُ كَرمٍ
يَكادُ يُخفى الزُجاجَه

4. Did we request this wealth of wine
To grant us its delight.

٤. إِذا اِقتَرَحنا عَلَيهِ
غِنىً لَنا أَهزاجَه

5. Mellowed to smoothness in its jar
No roughness now its draughts can mar

٥. مُهَفهَفُ القَدِّ فيهِ
لَباقَةٌ وَنَضاجَه

6. And if thy lips are pressed to far
They'll meet a soft delight.

٦. إِن أَنتَ قَبَّلتَ فاهُ
قَبَّلتَ عَذبَ المَجاجَه

7. I begged of thee, so set apart
All sullen pride, each stubborn heart,

٧. وَقَد سَأَلتُكَ فَاِحضُر
وَخَلِّ عَنكَ اللَجاجَه

8. For due this day before thy start
Of fifty pilgrim-rites.

٨. فَحَقُّ ذا اليَومَ أَولى
مِن حَقِّ خَمسينَ حاجَه
