عيشك غض والزمان أغيد

1. Your life is still young while time grows old,
And the eyes of your enviers in it grow bleary.

١. عيشُك غَضٌّ والزمانُ أغيدُ
وطرفُ حُسّادِك فيه أرمدُ

2. O you dressed in blessings, adorned with them
Are garments that their like makes magnificent.

٢. يا لابسَ النعماءِ هُنّيتَ بها
ملابساً كساكَهُنَّ أمجد

3. The ugliest thing is to blame a time
In which, for you, good is Muhammad.

٣. أقبحُ شيءٍ أن تذُمَّ زمناً
حسبُك فيه حسناً محمد

4. O eyes of loving ones, get rest through a young man
In the first light of the highly placed, from it he set forth.

٤. يا أعينَ الوُفّادِ قُرّي بفتىً
في مطلعِ العلياءِ منه فَرقد

5. That one whose two hands are both soft,
The healthy feel ease from them at the pond.

٥. ذاك الذي كِلتا يديهِ لجّةٌ
يطيبُ للعافينَ منها المورد

6. Blessed of feature, awe-inspiring in zeal,
In his furs are a moon and a lion.

٦. مباركُ الطلعةِ مرهوبُ الحِمى
في بُردَتيهِ قمرٌ وأسد

7. Honored of assembly, of lofty position,
His charms upon a string are threaded.

٧. موقَّرُ المجلسِ ذو ركانةٍ
حبوتُه على شمامٍ تُعقَد

8. In the prime of spring, the spokesman of excellence,
It is as if his tongue is made smooth.

٨. بالفصل في صدرِ النديِّ ناطقٌ
كأنَّما لسانُه مُهنَّد

9. Descending, for you, from his eloquence, a snippet
Or a pearl in his prose embellished.

٩. سقيطُ طَلٍّ لك من بيانه
أو لؤلؤٌ في سلكِه مُنضَّدِ

10. A garden of virtue whose keeper
Plucks from it, through the spreading of publishing, a flower that he witnesses.

١٠. روضةُ فضلٍ يجتني رائدُها
زَهراً بطيبِ النشرِ عنه يَشهد

11. He brings out for a people created in time
Gems whose value therein the eternal measures.

١١. يُنمى لقومٍ في الزمانِ خُلِقوا
جواهراً يُزانُ فيها الأبد

12. They are better than any he nominated for envy
Glory and more fragrant than any he angered.

١٢. هم خيرُ من رشَّحه لسؤددٍ
مجدٌ وأزكى من نماهُ مَحتِد
